OL Coach/Run Game Coordinator Justin Frye (Official Thread)

His room cost OSU a CFP appearance. For all the negative talk about McCord, OSU probably wins the Game if the OL didn't look like matadors
I mean how many times did we see over the season where guys didn't seem to know their assignments and would double teams the wrong guys... I mean it's like they didn't practice or the design was bad or they hadn't gone up against certain style fronts and were confused .... I mean the unit was atrocious all year

This is my greatest fear for the 2024 season.

Day will address some of his shitty coaching decisions (ie Parker Fuckin Fleming) but leave his good buddy Frye to be the weak link in 24.

Let me get this straight...he's looked into the portal and his suggestion is to bring in a guy who couldn't even muster honorable mention all-Sun Belt status and the center from Alabama, who played the single worst game I've ever seen a center play, for visits? Those are your first 2 moves? Wow so ambitious, GTFOH! He's a worse recruiter and talent evaluator than Studrawa. Where is Pantoni? There's no way he's evaluated these 2 guys and said, "Yes, these are the first 2 swings that The Ohio State University should take in an attempt to improve our offensive line." I know there aren't a lot of dynamic recruiters and personalities when it comes to offensive line coaches but Frye doesn't even approach average.

Why do you think Frye is his good buddy?
I've assumed this due to the overlap of their careers. Frye was a young OL coach at Temple and then BC with Day before Day was called up to the big leagues with his former coach, Chip Kelley. Day is seemingly the connection between Frye and Kelley and likely how he got connected for the UCLA job.

Just the ramblings of an insane Buckeye poster. But that is what I always assumed and figured.

Calling them good buddies seems a bit of a stretch though, eh? Addazio got hired from Temple to Boston College and brings a young staff alongside, including Day and Frye. That happens in most places with a coaching transition. Lots of stuff happened before and in between. Then, Day and Frye re-unite 8 years later. I don't know if that seems like good buddies beyond the typical comradery of working and coaching alongside one another.

Interesting candidate that lines up with the “if OC (Joe Brady), then surprise additional move” theory.

Joe Brady and he will bring in his old buddy James Cregg as OL coach. Cregg is currently an assistant OL coach for the 49ers but was the OL/Run Game Coordinator at LSU while Brady was there as the Passing Game Coordinator. Just my thoughts.

All the above is good stuff. Day uses Kelley as his mentor, moreso than he does Urban, it appears. Frye was recommended by Kelley, and Day snarfled him up. didn't know about the BC connection, which must account for the extra latitude. It's time to relax on Studrawa, it's been another cycle worth of time, now it's all on Frye/Day. Laughed at Peanuts remarks, wanted to add Ole' is not a blocking scheme.
