Entrance Exam: Kyle Dodson
Kyle Dodson, once a Wisconsin pledge, feels at home in Columbus

Entrance Exam is a series at BuckeyeNation where we chat with incoming freshmen in Ohio State athletics.

After decommitting from Wisconsin, Kyle Dodson waited until national signing day to become a Buckeye, a decision he made two days before making the announcement.

His commitment caused quite a stir in Northeast Ohio when a frenzied crowd joined several media organizations at Cleveland Heights High School to wait on his decision. The announcement can be found on YouTube and has more than 16,000 views to date.

William Wilkerson/ESPN.comKyle Dodson of Cleveland Heights picked Ohio State on signing day.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound left tackle led the Tigers to a 9-1 record and undefeated season in the Lake Erie League as a senior. Cleveland Heights reached the playoffs for the first time in school history, but lost in the first round to defending Division I state champion Lakewood St. Edward.

Since then, Dodson has already put himself in the mix on the offensive line at Ohio State.

BuckeyeNation caught up with Dodson and asked him about why he switched to Ohio State and how his life has changed.

BN: You waited until signing day to make a decision. What does it mean to you to be a Buckeye?

My only issue was that Meyer said he wouldn't redshirt unless there was an injury.

Dodson has been dealing with a shoulder injury for some time going all the way back to HS (he had surgery in January) and recovering from that is still holding him back somewhat and he has missed practice time due to injury (whether it is still the shoulder or something else I don't know).

I thought it was more along the lines of did not like to, rather that would not.
"There's no redshirting," he said in an interview last week on 97.1 The Fan's mid-day show 'Common Man & The Torg' in Columbus.

In that case, I understand now.

What Meyer means by "no redshirting" is players who have earned the right to play will not be held out of games in order to preserve a year of eligibility. There will still be players who, for various reasons, don't get into any games during the course of a given season.
