OL Marcus Hall (The Bird Man of Ann Arbor)

:topic:

Back to Marcus. The idea of a Offensive Linemen with a nasty steak is huge... See Brewster.

Any timeliness on commitment? I'm guessing the standard Glenville recruit waiting to the end in order to help out the other players in their process, which drives me nuts but I agree with it fully. Smart very Smart

Quick question for Grad, RB, Wad, or anyone that has seen his video or in person. I haven't had the privilege to see any of his videos as of yet, so how does Marcus stack up against the OLmen we have coming in this year? I've heard RB say he likes him at guard better than tackle, so how would he compare to a Jenkins or Brewster?

I like him better at guard at this point but after seeing him at the AA combine, I think he would make an excellent tackle as well. However, I do think his strength would be guard, especially with Adams and Shugarts in '08. I like Hall and Mewhort a ton in the fact that they are both very versatile and can fit in where we need them. Hall, Watts, and Mewhort (possibly one more) would be on heck of an addition to the existing '08 class.

As far as comparison to other guys like Brew and Adams...grad said it. Not as polished as Brew, Adams, and Shugarts but one thing that is certainly comparable is his mean streak. In any case, Hall has all the tools to be a great one just like the Block O.

Look for us to after some big names nationally...I think the staff has to feel pretty confident in landing the above 3...Hall is just waiting till he verbals...They have to feel solid about Watt, with what we are hearing on the boards...

I think they will cast a search of big names to land a 4th lineman...

I agree that Hall might be better at guard, but he has the ability to be a T if needed there...Maybe a RT...

When we landed Skinner, Person and Mitchum I was thrilled. They had the potential to be the best OL group we had seen in some time. Here we are coming up on their fifth year and they are not exactly the backbone of this line.

Duane Long always says the OL is the toughest position to project.

Grab all you can get.

Not that I am disagreeing with you, but Person started all season and Skinner if he could fight thru his injuries I do believe would be starting...

I think there is a reason why you don't just take lineman on top of lineman is because if they don't work out at one position there is no where else to try them...Most other positions have versatility and can play multiple positions...Oline is it if you can't make it as an olineman then you are stuck...

But this is really for another topic, back to Marcus...

And not to continue OT - but that is pretty much my point. Skinner has NOT fought through his injuries. Mitchum has yet to emerge. And Person is arguably the weakest of our starters. Yet when we landed these kids in 2004 the attitude on the board was only a step or two below our excitement over Brewster et al. In that class Rehring was the afterthought and some felt a wasted schollie. (Skinner was rated much lower nationally, but that was due to a HS injury which we were all sure he would recover from and become all world.)

Sorry - back to Hall.

The 2009 OL class wtih Hall, Mewhort, and Co. IMO is as exciting as this years. Two consecutive years of a top OL class is thrilling after our recruiting struggles in the recent past. IF Hall were to commit early it would hopefully spark our overall recruiting like last year with Brewster and Co.

It would be great to get an early commit from Hall, but with the commits we have already before NLOID, its safe to say that the 2009 recruiting has been "sparked"

I am all for being excited about oline #'s as the next person, but we will never see a class as good as Brewster, Adams, Shugarts, Jenkins(hopefully)...

No offense to any other classes we bring in or any offense to Hall, Mewhort but two of those kids are once every 10 year type kids and no brainers, and Shugarts and Jenkins are guys that are top 100 kids comparable to Hall this year and guys like Boone in years past...

JMO but once again back to Hall...
