OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I've stared at this sentence for a couple minutes now and I'm still not sure what you meant to say.

Maybe confusing Woods with Walker?

Also is assuming that Carton is not a PG already? I think he had a stroke mid-post.
I did mean Walker and not Woods. I also sort of forgot that Walker will be around for 2 years and hopefully Carton will be also.

My main point of the post was that I am not sure if I want to have only one scholarship available for next season which would be the case if we offered Roderick because we are going to have to get someone to play behind Wesson during his senior season.

I know that a couple of you think that there are going to be a transfer or two after this season but I do not want to speculate until it happens. Also almost everyone is getting some minutes so I would think most of the guys on the roster is somewhat pleased.

Personally, I see lack of elite quickness and playmaking skill as problems for the roster at this point, so I do believe they could benefit greatly from having Dom Penn in the future. Haven't seen Roderick, but PG play is so crucial in college basketball, I would lean to adding a PG over SG and play multiple playmakers.

Good points. From what I've seen of DJ, he could easily play the SG role with another Assist-first type of guy running the PG on the court at the same time. Depending on how Holtman wanted to run the Offense I could see this putting a ton of pressure on the Defense. Knowing DJ can definitely create his own offense the halfcourt has a lot of options. I am definitely on the Penn train to so hopefully he comes in too.

for one, it's interesting that the staff (particularly pedon) is reaching out to another player available for 2019. for two, it's interesting that it's a juco player.

sean mcneil is a 6'4" freshman shooting guard playing for sinclair community college (dayton). from northern kentucky, he had originally committed to bellarmine (d2) for 2017 but decided he wasn't ready for the academic side of college basketball when he showed up for orientation. he spent a year at a local cc without playing organized ball.

so far at sinclair, he is leading all of juco at 31 points per game while shooting 88% from the line and 42% behind the arc (on very high volume with deep range). the rebounding stats are also impressive for a sg. the ballhandling is pretty nifty, too. one caveat, however, is that sinclair is a d2 (of 3) juco college. he's not getting those stats against the type of competition that, say, cj jackson faced.

a caveat to that caveat is that some big players are getting involved. dayton, toledo, and wku have offered. wvu offered today. uva, marquette, xavier, missouri, and ttu are sniffing around, which perhaps allays some academic concerns. and the tape below is rather impressive, regardless of competition. huggins won't be the last coach from a major program to offer.

i have nothing to base this on, but i'd bet that wvu will prove to be the leader. it's his first big offer. they need players. the path to playing time should be open. perhaps most important to mcneil is that the environment at and around wvu probably fits a player from northern kentucky who has been apprehensive. on other hand, his hometown is more or less a suburb of cincinnati, so wvu ain't exactly close. perhaps wku, xavier, and dayton have the upper hand, with programs like uc and louisville to follow.

yeah, i hope we offer mcneil. despite previous statements about wanting the 2019 class to stand pat due to roster size and possible imbalance, there is so much to like about his game even considering the level of competition. some things just translate no matter who is in front of you. the only qualifier here is mcneil's mindset about stepping up to the big stage. i do wish, however, that he had a couple more inches.

Like him a lot, if there is room you just have to take a player with that kind of skill
unfortunately, i can't see us making his top 3 or so. mcneil gets three seasons of d1 ball, so he's probably going to prioritize programs with (much) less roster congestion than osu projects to have. if he were instead an incoming true freshman and/or from the columbus area, perhaps it would be different.
