OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

could be one to watch going forward. no offer yet from osu, but there has been continued interest for at least 8 months. most assumed miller was memphis-bound (last offer was over a year ago), but then his dad resigned from hardaway's team a few weeks ago. indiana is believed to be the current favorite for mason, but osu is right in the thick of it. with miller no longer having connections to memphis, perhaps an osu offer is extended. if indiana gets trey kaufman (2021 top-70 power forward from indiana) in addition to logan duncomb, osu might become the favorite for miller. kinda surprised we haven't offered yet.

Seems likely that they will offer Mason on this visit.

Miller seems very similar to Etzler. But slightly better, I guess.
quoted tweet was from last fall. perhaps you've heard differently about an upcoming zoom "visit," but there is no scheduled visit that i know of.

regarding miller and etzler, the former is probably the kind of player ho1tmann was hoping the latter would become. much wider skill set and the difference in tenacity is massive.

at least in terms of his basketball future, kalen probably should have transferred to a program that faces much better opposition. just looked at the schools in his conference. average class size is about 75. competition must be horrible. the scrapped aau season was especially bad news for kalen. hard to gauge where you're at and where you need to be if you rarely or never face better players between september and march. now tack on april, may, june, and perhaps july as well as august.

lemme put it this way: kalen's tallest teammate is 6'2".

Oh, haha, sorry, I didn't notice that you were just bumping an old tweet. That makes sense. I should have known no way Mason would be visiting soon. What's the date again? Heh.

I won't argue against the fact that Mason right now is more productive against better comp. I think style wise they are similar players with similar ceilings. So if we offer Mason it is basically trying to recruit over Etzler in the same class, imo.

I feel like we have bigger needs and not enough scholarship spots. But Mason is a really good player and I certainly wouldn't hate it if we add him.

Trying to figure out this staff's overall recruiting philosophy is tough, though. Quality guard depth doesn't seem to be a high priority and while I can appreciate more of a flex frontcourt, we will have to see how we fare with less post size/bulk in the B1G. I just wonder if we are going to be constantly missing a higher level of certain skills and attributes on the court for the sake of more wing/forward options. I especially would like to see a bit more emphasis on recruiting ballhandling and passing, as I am not a fan of how we turn the ball over and it would also improve how the players run offense.

Meechie is a good start, but we are going to need more players like him. A little surprised we haven't offered a few more 2022 guards than we already have given that as it stands Meechie would be the only returning backcourt player.

seems like coach is waiting for other programs to offer our in-state 2022 guards before he offers them. now that he's offered one, i wish he'd just offer all three. definitely offer sean jones. make the hometown kid feel like he's not just a plan b option.

at least that's the view from the cheap seats. staff obviously has a better handle on things than we do.

Bingo! But then again wtf do I know
