OSU's huge recruiting weekend

Matta went nuts at an AAU tourney this weekend. Cook, Conley, Lighty & Oden in 06 and Gordon in 07 are all on the Indy Spiece AAU team. They played against Young this weekend. Matta, with some help from his future players, are on the verge of a huge coup.

Daequan Cook and Mike Conley apparently were recruiting like mad this weekend at their AAU tourney.
Conley may have chosen OSU as Wake's coach seems to have shifted directions (per many sources).
Greg Oden calls OSU his #1
Eric Gordon calls OSU his favorite.
Thaddeus Young's interest is growing for OSU with all the recruiting efforts and momentum for Matta, Cook... and the rumblings everyone's getting from Conley/Oden/Lighty.

I'm sure all of you have read these tidbits elsewhere, but I wanted a consolidated place to ramble on excitedly about this.

Look at the future of this program... WOW! :yow2:

2005
SG Ronald Lewis - star transfer from BG, possibly OSU's best player in some practices
SG Sylvester Mayes - great defender that is a scorer, juco recruit
C/PF Brayden Bell - most skilled bigman in the west

2006
SG/SF David Lighty - #2/3 SG favoring OSU
SG Daequan Cook - #1 SG verballed to OSU; AAU teammate of...
PG Mike Conley - #1 PG has chosen OSU??; AAU teammate of...
C Greg Oden - #1 C (would likely be the top NBA draft pick)
SF Thaddeus Young - #1 SF warming to OSU
(if we have room:
...C/PF Luke Harangody - powerful big man
...SF Josh Chicester - great athlete; recruited hard for FB & BB
...SF Raymar Morgan - is also a strong possibility.
...PG Drew Lavender - transfer from OU)

2007
PG/SG OJ Mayo - #1 PG/SG; 2005 Mr. Basketball as a soph.
SG Eric Gordon - #1 SG; elite scorer from any range
SF Bill Walker - #1 SF; says he'll follow OJ Mayo
C Dallas Lauderdale - talented big man, has ties to Lighty
Raymar Morgan is also a strong possibility.

2008
C BJ Mullens - OSU-verbal, top-25 frosh

I have been scrambling aroung the web reading all I can about this also. I am as excited about all of this as I can tell you are. I am also excited about the possibility of getting Drew Lavender here as well, but I'm a homer when it comes to Brookhaven. I knew Matta was a great recruiter, but to even have this lineup as as a legitamite possibility is more than i could have ever imagined.

I would love to get Lavander here. I went to school with his bro at Whitehall and would see him shoot around in pick up games in the gyms or during the seasonb and that boy has skill!

Hey bro, Im confused when u say "teammate of..."? U mean they would be tammates if they went to OSU right? Because only Conley and Oden play together now; Lighty plays in Cleveland and Cook plays in Dayton if Im correct.

So, who you gonna root for, BfS? The Spartans or the Buckeyes!?!:hour:

BTW, Raymar is in the same class as Daequan. And Billy Walker and O.J. say they are gonna play together. And Chichester is biding his time. It will be tough sorting through all of the players in the next two years, but someone has to do it!

Don't forget Dallas Lauderdale for class of 07.
I've added him, I meant him to be on that list.

I honestly don't think we'll pick up Lavender, with his defensive matchup issues at his height. Not only that, but there are so many blue chip recruits dying to come here I would wonder if Matta would save all possible spots for the pipeline he could be building from the Indy Spiece team.

Crap, so much excitement and so many mistakes :)

As for who I'll root for, the buckeyes have always been unjustly favored in my brackets in the past. Problem is they rarely stuck around, so I had to default to rooting for my second favorite team (dad's alma mater).

Keep correcting me people :) I'll keep making changes

For anyone who has not followed BBall recruiting the past several years whether we get any of these kids or not (it is looking good) to simply garner their interest is extraordinay.

I love Obie but ("I love Obie but" is the mandatory phrase required of any post comparing the current program to the former program) he simply did not go after these kids. Thad Matta is not wandering around the Balkans seeing what $6,000 will buy. Obie approached the entire process differently and we all (myself included) simply accepted it as the best you can do if you were a football school. We didn't get stiffed by the studs on signing day - we didn't get a whiff to begin with (Malik was the exception).

I can see Bob Huggins reaching for the bottle as I type.

i hate to say this but some of you havent been following the program. the guy had 2 big ten titles and a tournament championship.

a team that has been in the top 6 in attendance for 4 years in a row. in his last year the attendance plummeted to 18th 14,521-still more than capacity at st johns.

his teams were 77-20 in VCA, damn imipressive if you take out his last two years.

im not defending the guy or taking sides, but things werent as dark as some believe. if you think they are then you dont remember the mid 90s when our program was a flat out JOKE.

the wake forest board on scout.com is going ape scat over this. very similar to the BN free board with the Fred Davis saga 2 years ago.

Also, Paul Harris has said that he is 90% sure about going to 'Cuse. He plays the same position as Lighty, so that may give osu some help if Harris commits there.

No doubt about the second and third years of O'brien days. If I remember right though, those were Scoonie and Redd days. after that program was going downwards. I didn't see any hope in the team that played for him in his last year.

I couldn't agree more with the excitement though. It's good to see bucks do well in basketball. With this type of the class...we can make noise next year.

Also, someone stole my ID.... Who is this BuckeyePride85? Not an original for sure!
