Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Bull[Mark May]. I get skin-on pork bellies to cure for bacon, and there's no god damned hair on them.

As for scrapple, if there's something wrong with that breakfast, you clowns have been taking too many estrogen pills.

Man, when I moved to PA a guy (who is a huge foodie btw) answered me when I asked him what the hell scrapple was. He went on to tell me that it's such nasty shit, that's picked up off the floor from what's left over of the real pork cutting and that it sometimes had hair in it.

That, as they say, was that and I never ordered the shit, investigated it further nor has it ever passed my lips.

McQueary whistleblower suit against PSU scheduled for trial: http://www.centredaily.com/news/local/education/penn-state/jerry-sandusky/article95846297.html

FAX! EVIDENTS!
“I have been informally advised that plantiff, despite his best efforts, has been unsuccessful at obtaining a coaching position at any level,” Gavin wrote. “I question whether this is a reflection on his coaching skills or due to the notoriety surrounding him resulting from his involvement in the Sandusky case. In either event, he has no job.”

Might be a reflection of his inability to find any other football program he could blackmail into giving him a job (after abandoning a child being molested instead of intervening like a decent human being.)

1. Goetta is a west of Vine Street thing, over in the Bavarian Catholic ghetto.
2. Sounds like Scrapple without the fucking accordion.
3. Or as Samuel Johnson put it in his dictionary: Oats, a grain fed to horses and Scots.

I always thought it was a creative result of a town with a lot of slaughterhouses where the poors bought/took the pork scraps and made sweet porcine goodness out of it. The Chicago equivalent is South Side BBQ of rib tips and beef links, which were essentially the scraps from the stockyard packing houses that the blacks, fresh up from the South, could buy for nothing and smoke in aquarium type smokers.

I tried that [Mark May] once and I still get dirty looks when I tell them it taste like really bad sausage rolled in saw dust.
That's because it was. But I wouldn't say that while eating at West Side Chili - about a half mile north of Elder High School. Those old kraut heads don't take kindly to folks dissing their food. Loved their menu: two eggs, goetta, two eggs, bacon and goetta, eggs, ham and goetta, eggs, steak and goetta, eggs, pancakes, bacon and goetta, goetta, eggs, bacon and goetta.

Read like the script from Monty Python's Spam spoof. "But I don't like goetta." "In that case get the goetta, eggs, bacon and goetta. It doesn't have much goetta in it."

We lived a block away from Elder high school for five years. On Academy Ave., actually. Got free tickets each year for one game with some no-name in recompense for all their students parking in front of our house every day. Thanks for the memory.
I know that restaurant of which you speak. I remember that menu. I could never cross that threshold. Literally or figuratively.

Actually it was a pretty great place to dive out. My wife is an old West Sider and I coached against Elder and went there several times to tell war stories to their history classes. Two eggs, once over politely, whole wheat or an English muffin, sausage, goetta or home fries, and good coffee. Loved the place. Too bad it's so hard to find a Ma and Pa place in the world of corporate food
