Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

President went over to JoePed's house (because the President goes to Joe, not the other way around) and brought up the issue of a time frame for his retirement and succession (not even close to suggesting he resign) and JoePed threw him out of the house. Tell me again, who was running that school?

Joe the basketball coach if I remember the narrative correctly

Tell me again, who was running that school?

But... he only cared about graduating players from that world-class institution. And making them better citizens.

And yeah - I've said it before, but if you believe McQueary's story at all, if you read between the lines, you'll see that his dad and the doctor friend thought Paterno ran the entire town. They advise him to go tell JoePa? Seems very Godfather-ish to me. And then JoePa tells the AD, the VP, and the President. But who do they talk to when they come up with their decision? Yeah - "Coach". Who is "Coach"? The woman's golf coach? Why would that be anyone other than Paterno? Also, didn't the email say something like, "after talking with Coach, we feel it would be the most humane thing if we do this...."? That stinks of "we want to take this action, but Paterno talked us into this other action (which is actually INaction).

Sorry - I think I'm saying junk that I've said here before, and I'm sure 50 others on this board have said. It just drives me nuts that this went as far as it did and those ketchup-lovers still walk around like their shit don't stink.

There's a new PSU blog that just started up, and they posted some cryptic stuff that got the cult all excited. Turns out the excitement was just the website itself launching. I went to see what it was all about, and their only story so far is a very cult heavy version of when and why BOB left. It was basically several paragraphs of "after the (ridiculous) sanctions" or "after the (unjust) firing of Paterno". They bring up the (ridiculous) notion that Paterno ran that place and just toss it aside as if only a fool would believe it. Before the Sandusky shit, it was a source of pride for those people that he ran the place.

Jets rookie quarterback Christian Hackenberg has yet to to play a snap through two preseason games. He was supposed to play on Friday night, but didn’t.

Why?

“Coach’s decision,” Todd Bowles, said after the game.

Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal, even with Hackenberg being a second-round pick. But when pressed for more details,Bowles continued to dance around the question.

(moar...)

[PennStateFanCultist]Hackenberg might not be a better college QB than OSU's QBs but he will be a way better pro.[PennStateFanCultist/]

Was watching the film Spotlight today for the first time. A character makes a statement that caused me to shout out loud "Oh, Damn, that's a great line!" I thought of the many discussions here about how many people knew about Sandusky, and for how long, and did nothing.

The Line: "If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse one."

Perhaps the saddest epilogue I have ever seen in a film. The last scene closes with every phone in the reporters' office ringing with calls from survivors of molestation by priests. After a statement about the very luxurious retirement Cardinal Law enjoys in Rome, another screen emerges. It is a list of cities in the world where similar outrages have since been reported. The list is in small print, three columns wide, filling the screen. That list fades, and another three-column-wide page emerges...and then another...and yet another. And I found myself attempting to do the math--that many places X how many children per location? I don't cry at the end of many movies, but this one warranted it.

Which is all a round-about way of saying, the next time someone tries to claim that all of Sandusky's victims are accounted for, or those of his extended circle of friends from Second Mile, do me a favor. Tell them for me where they can shove that bullshit.

Ohio State cheats cuz they get good players! No proof needed, guilty!

"Penn State does what every school does."
Where's your proof?!?!

=================
They must be cheating, no FL, TX, CA kid wants to go to a cold city!!!

So no FL, TX, CA kids have ever gone to Penn St without being paid?

The lack of logic used by the "we're not NW but we're close" fan base is mind numbing.

PSU thus far has held athletes to a higher standard. We are not Northwestern, but we are pretty good with values, under the circumstances. If we ever became a semi-pro program like OSU. I think most fans would walk away (maybe run away, I know I would).

The coach sanctioned child rape won't run him off but by god if they ever become a semi-pro team he's out of there.

There is another one in that thread that honestly questions Urban/OSU putting guys into the NFL.

EDIT:
You want some real fun check this thread out. Nothing to do with OSU but man oh man.

https://bwi.forums.rivals.com/threads/osu-with-two-5-receiver-commits-yesterday.137741/

A thread whining about how Ohio State is getting great recruits.
I like this stuff:
1) The general tenor of the thread is this: The only reason that Ohio State out-recruits Penn State is "cheating". In other words, Ohio State and Penn State would be equally attractive options for a recruit but for Ohio State's "cheating". However, no one in the thread promotes Penn State as an attractive option for a recruit (unless being "Northwestern Lite" is somehow supposed to be attractive).

2) According to Rivals, Ohio State has the #2 recruiting class in the country (a few points behind Alabama), and the highest average star ranking (4.06* per recruit). Penn State is 21st, just behind Rutgers (#20), and just ahead of Maryland (#22) and Iowa (#23). If Penn State is having difficulty out-recruiting Rutgers and Maryland, then they have no chance of competing with Ohio State for recruits, cheating or no cheating.

3) Penn State just doesn't have much to offer outside of Joe Paterno's sketchy legacy and a couple of national championships that people under age 50 would have difficulty remembering clearly. They are a scandal-ridden regional program located in the middle of nowhere, with a head coach who has a rather bizarre personality and very little game day prowess.

Penn State doesn't have a great record of putting players into the NFL. Penn State has had just four first round draftees since 2004 (Ohio State has 21) and none since 2010 (the past six drafts); Ohio State also leads in total draftees during that period, 81 to 48.

Penn State doesn't win big games. Their last notable victory came way back in 2008 when they upset Ohio State in Columbus.

Penn State's last major bowl victory was in the 2006 Orange Bowl (2005 season) over Florida State. Ohio State has six major bowl victories and a national championship since 2005.
