PF EJ Liddell (All B1G, All-American, New Orleans Pelicans)

Family issues have made being closer to home more of a priority for EJ recently.

Last visit usually wins.

And Illini have a loaded backcourt but a glaring need at PF.

Might be a few too many factors working against OSU down the stretch here.

Illinois fans are an obsessive bunch who spend hours trying to analyze how many times a recruit has reportedly smiled on a visit or what color socks the recruit is wearing. But I hope they're right about EJ's visit!

Hearing again and again that EJ likes OSU best but that a few others in his camp want him elsewhere because we're the farthest from home and have a more crowded roster at forward. I dunno if Illinois will be able to sway him as they finish up his visit, but if not, you have to like our chances if some of the Mizzou guys are starting to think they're not getting him.

Hey, nomatta, like your responses. Can you seriously tell me how the Illini fan base is different from Buckeye Nation? Or anyone elses? I/we tremble when someone says the recruit likes where they visited? (why would they not?), and if are not effusive when tOSU shows them the red carpet, we shudder with anticipated rejection. Ah, yes, recruiting of 18 (or 16-17) olds is not for the timid or weak. Buckeye Nation is feeling good because our new coach is reeling in some good talent, which hopefully translates into wins on the court. Believe that recruits look to see who is already verbaled to which team, and wanting to build a good/great base. More ramble, believe that once Holtmann builds his case, the Midwest kids will listen. Here's to good news! Go Bucks!

The Illini fanbase is a whole other level as compared to Buckeye basketball fanbase right now. Now, are they so different from our zealous football fanbase? No. And I do have to give them some props for being so diligent in their dedication even though their program has been just a hair or two above mediocre for over a decade now. It'd be nice if Buckeye basketball had that sort of unflagging support.

But, I mean, for the scrimmage they had for EJ and other recruits this weekend they had a sheet printed out for everyone to chant to try to get these recruits to come to Illinois, and the chants were weirdly and creepily specific. They scour social media and are relentless in posting things at recruits to make sure they understand Illinois is the place for them, at a level similar to how Buckeyes football fans probably are. Middle-aged men from all over the state of Illinois apparently drove to Champaign for this visit. EJ was on the cover of the local paper in Champaign. On their 247 board there is pages upon pages of discussion of them trying to read EJ's body language and facial expressions during the scrimmage.

I am about as diehard and invested as Buckeye bastketball fans comes, but that kind of obsessive behavior is a bit too much, in my eyes. But I am not really trying to criticize them for it, I was just pointing out that I think some of the Illinois fans might be trying to read into things too much when they say they don't like the vibe of EJ's visit.
