PG P.J. Hill (BK JEKABPILS- Latvia)

I have never heard his name.......they needed another PG for next year.......with him on board expect Matta not to go after another PF in the 2008 class......it looks like they will concentrate on 09-10....
I wouldn't even try to guess what Matta might do next. If you have never heard of Hill I wouldn't even try to "expect" what he might be getting next.

PG was such a gaping whole on the roster, behind butler, maybe they just needed to get a body in there that can handle the rock off the bench.

He may not be this prized recruit that flew under the radar, but rather the best option this late.

I hope i'm wrong and he contributes to the extent that Je'kel did. Or for that matter, I hope he exceeds expectations to the extent that Conley did.

In any event, Guard depth was a huge concern, and this signing fills a big need, and takes some of the pressure off of Lighty to play the point in a pinch.

I agree. I trust that Matta wouldnt sign a recruit unless he had talent, but we should be honest with ourselves. It would be great if PJ turned out to be a major contributer, but I'll be fine with the signing as long as he can provide mediocre play to let Butler take a rest here and there.

Agree. Not trying to dis PJ in any way (particularly sight unseen) but with the loss of Conley a backup PG was such a critical need (take another look at the roster to see just how critical) we had to bring in someone - and given that it was for PG it almost had to be a JUCO (Frosh PGs that can contribute are rare and not available this late in the game and a transfer would be here too late to address the need). That TM chose to invest three years rather than go for the more traditional and more experienced Junior JUCO is a positive statement about Hill. But all we really know is that he was the best available of a limited group that we know nothing about.

It also says that TM was as surprised as any of us that Conley turned out to be a one and done player. I can't imagine what we would be looking at if Butler had in fact made the jump.

After reading some comments on this verbal, it is obvious our opinions range from suprise to skeptical. It is obvious now that the staff felt they needed to get an additional PG and it seems that Hill may be what they call a "late bloomer", he has 3 years to develop but he has just a short off season to develop enough to give Butler a blow for 7-10 minutes a game. I think that will be his role.

Personally, I like players who have had to earn everything given to them.....they seem to always be fan favorites.

dont tell me im the only one who got this...

Nah, I had to rub my eyes last night, as I was about to head to bed, before I started this thread. I thought to myself, man, we are worried about only taking one RB, and now we are not only taking another one, we are stealing one from Wisky....did a triple take just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating

haha when I first saw "PJ Hill" I stopped and had to think for a second until I remembered who it was.

He should make a good back up on the football team if he decides to walk on. :wink2:

Hill not yet a Buckeye

In the world of recruiting sometimes things can be confusing, and that seems to be the case with P.J. Hill. Reports surfaced both Thursday night and Friday morning that Hill committed to Ohio State, and would enroll as soon as Monday in school. However that isn't exactly the case.
