  • Okay, so my Blackberry crapped out a few weeks ago and I've been limping along with my older-model Blackberry. Lucky for me, I'm due for an upgrade tomorrow, so I can get a new phone relatively inexpensively.

    My question to BP is:

Should I finally get an iPhone?

Here are the issues at hand:

iPhone 4S will be $199, which is not really an issue since my company will pay for it. However, there are rumors about an iPhone 5 coming out soon. Unfortunately, I'm guessing iPhone 5 will be more $$, and while my company is footing the bill, I don't want to shell out too much coin for a phone.

iPhone 4S may drop in price when 5 comes out, but frankly, I don't want to wait. I feel like 4S will be a major upgrade anyway.

I'm not into droid-type phones, and I'm a big Apple guy already (ipods, iMac at home, iPad).

    So....what would you do, BP?

    TIA

Don't get the 4s at this point...

iPhone 5 announcement is Sept. 12th with it being released Sept. 21st

What's the plan for your phone? Are you just an average user or are you into customization, jail breaking/rooting/etc....Do you have other apple products, PC, etc

iPhone 5 will more than likely keep same prices as it has now....16gb/32gb/64gb, $200/$300/400

Unless they surprise us and do something like 32/64/x....it could be 250/300/350 or stay the same as above.

My daughter has an Iphone 4 pre serre. She has had some issues with it, but luckily she has been able to get new ones free. She has a problem with the battery maintaining charge now.

I have an Android and ever since it updated the OS a couple of months ago, it locks up and reboots on its own. My coworker has the same issue.

My advice.....punt.....because whatever you get will have good points and bad points....

Why? Do you work at Starbucks?

I eschew Starbucks. I brew the coffee I drink. :p

My dad bought an Apple IIe back in like 1983 so we were an Apple family from the start. We had the original Macintosh, and a few others through the years. I switched to PC in college and just went back to Mac about 2 years ago.

So, you like your computers like you like your coffee?

Recently upgraded from a Droid 2 to the iPhone 4. Love it so far & glad I made the switch. Had the option to go with the 4s, but figured I wouldn't use Siri all that often & had family members complaining that Siri didn't understand them half the time anyway. Plus my phone was an open box return to Best Buy with no issues & I got it for free. Can't complain about that....

My girlfriend also upgraded to the 4 from a Blackberry. I don't know how she dealt with the Blackberry as long as she did. I hated the thing & wanted to toss it out the window any time I had to use it.

If your BB is giving you fits, I'd make the switch now.

If you can hold out wait for the "new" iphone. If you can't wait then upgrade then get the 4s. If you wait, carriers will likely subsidize the new iPhone down to around the same price at worst it will be $299 instead of $199

    RIM IS COUNTING ON YOU!

I thought is was funny. To be fair... I have a blackberry... for... oh, about 61 more days. Not that I'm counting.

You essentially answered your own question. The company is footing the bill and you dont want to wait, the 4S is cheaper (and lots of places are already dropping the costs of the 4S in preparation of the release of the 5) and thus easier to justify, and you like Apple stuff, so get the 4S.
