Please Help - DVD Burning

matz2

Sheeeeeeeeeeeit!
Ok, I need help before I break my pc. I am trying to burn some .avi files that I downloaded on a dvd for playback on a DVD player. I am using Sonic's MyDVD LE. I have done this before, but I am now getting an error message that says the following:

My DVD has detected that DMA is turned off for one or more of the recording devices attached to the system. In order to successfully write to the device, DMA should be turned on - refer to your operating system manual or use Windows Help for instructions on how to do this.

If I bypass this error message and try to add a file, I receive the following message:

Could not make a thumbnail. Make sure you have the appropriate decoder installed. -47010.

Does anyone have experience with MyDVD LE and can tell me what is going on? Is there some other software I can use? How do I turn on my DMA?

Thanks in advance for any help that you might be able to provide.

I'll try that. I actually downloaded a converter, but it was a trial one that won't work correctly until you buy it. Thanks for the advice!

EDIT: Ok, that's not working, thanks anyway.

I use a software app called ConvertXtoDVD. It will decompress any avi or mpeg file to DVD format so it can be played on a DVD player. It will even burn the DVD when the decompression finishes without any additional interaction. Works slick as shit.

Not sure I can offer much real technical help of any kind, but I know any time I've tried to burn a divx file, I've had to convert it to mpeg. Maybe you have to do the same with an avi?

Is there an Avi to Mpeg tool available?
AVI is just a container for audio/video syncing. The actual video payload carried within the AVI is almost always already in Mpeg of Divx formats. :wink2:

If you're already running XP, grab Windows Media Encoder. It's free, and it'll break apart AVIs with less loss, since it can strip the container to the component streams, without (essentially) doing what most people wind up doing, playing Avi-Mpeg and doing a 1:1 conversion into Mpeg. You can also use the Media Encoder to interlace/deinterlace based on what media you've inherited to start with.

Wise words ...
Lossless conversion is the key.

VideoReDo for me though, no matter the incoming stream.

Same stuff I use. "Slick as shit" is the the only fitting description that I have heard.
