QB Cardale '12 Gauge' Jones (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Not going to go through each response again, but the bottom line is there are risks in life, no matter what you do, and playing it safe every time will leave you less off more times than not. Too many young players now leave early for the draft (what is there this year, something like 60?), denying themselves the chance to make much more for themselves and their families just by playing it safe. I, many here, and many paid experts think he should stay for another year. They just had an NFL personnel manager on TV say there are still a lot of questions needing to be answered before they seriously consider him, due to the lack of film or time to study him.

And those questions wont be answered if he cant beat out Barrett and Miller . Only makes sense for him to go

Which pro team do you think could let him hold a clipboard for 1-2 years and let him learn their (and his) style of offense before starting him?

San Fran? Philly?
Philly maybe. Also Denver, New England.

However, I am looking at Chicago as a possible landing spot. He would be forced into a starting role but if Chicago cuts ties with Cutler they will need to grab a QB anyway. Cardale I believe is going to be the third QB off the board So Bears may try to snag him early. 2nd or 3rd round. Cardale is the type of talent that would do well in Chicago with that offense. Good arm for Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey, and a solid run game. He doesn't force too many balls.

He actually did a really great job of stepping up into the pocket several times against both Bama and Oregon; he just wasn't consistent in doing so.

Agreed, but that's the name of the game in the NFL....there are great players in spurts, but if you can't do it consistently you won't get the chance. I don't have any doubts about him though as far as back peddling or being skittish. He got thrown into the fire and we saw how JT did his first few games...it takes time, let alone doing it late in the season against the best of the best and D's that have had all year to gel and play together. It's just a matter of getting the reps IMO. He's a poor mans Andrew Luck to me, and that's no insult.

But very few of those players are at risk of losing playing time by returning. I think it is a very difficult decision because both decisions have a wide range of outcomes. The difference is going pro likely involves a few million as the worst case scenario.

New England just took the EIU took pretty high last year, dont think they do that with Jones. Predicting Philly is just predicting him because he can run and nothing else. the Eagles offense is quite a bit of WCO short passing, something Jones didnt show a whole lot of in his 3 games. Cutler is also due 18 Mil, he's not going anywhere unless they trade for him, and to trade him they are probably giving up their 2nd or 3rd with him.

The questions NFL scouts have about Cardale will not be answered next year as long as Urban Meyer is the head coach. Cardale will not receive a snap from directly under center, work from conventional 3/5/7 step drops, lead the offense from a huddle, change the play at the LOS or do anything else NFL offenses typically do, because Urban Meyer doesn't run an offense that does those things.

I would argue coming back to school is playing it safe, and forging out into the unknown of the NFL is the risk.

Tough decision for the young man to make but honestly put yourself in his shoes. You don't script a storybook ending to your college career any better. You have the chance to walk away with that moment, washed in confetti as your last time in S & G, get some gaurunteed money for yourself and your young daughter and have a legitimate shot at making it in the pros without the burden of immediate expectations. Anyone that says they could easily return to college life is lying.

Nailed it. Don't want to see him go and I don't think he's ready but it probably won't get any higher for him than right now.

Good luck, Cardale - you are and forever will be, a legend at Ohio State.

Chicago is really thining about cutting Cutler lose. They would be down 18m but that would be not be the worst thing with a 3rd round QB.
