It is when he can make 3-5 million a year just by waiting one year...
If he starts, which is far from a guarantee.
If he doesn't get hurt. Not a wise bet in this offense.
If he doesn't expose weaknesses or other flaws by coming back with more film on him (and time for defenses to adjust).
If teams would feel that much better next year about a system QB with a killer team around him and 1-2 adjustments made for him before every snap.
If he doesn't feel that a few million is life changing by itself.
If he doesn't want to give himself another year of earning power.
If he doesn't want to play for free with all of the above uncertainty when he came here to make it to the NFL (like almost everyone else, he was just too vocal about it).

and he could just as easilly go undrafted if/when he got beat out for the starting job. or he blows out his knee and never plays again.
You are truly clueless if you think he'd go undrafted if he didn't start. Every single person on TV today has said he wouldn't lose stock staying at Ohio State even if he didn't start, and virtually everyone agrees his stock would either increase or be solidified by his staying. They also have insurance policies that would pay him more than he's likely to get paid getting drafted this year.

And not a single person who works for an NFL team has said that. Not a single one.
And so what? the goal isn't to get injured, its to get drafted as high as possible, and theres no guarentees nor is it likley he starts next year and helps his stock even more.

Time wharp... back to August of 2014
someone comes up to you and says "Cardale Jones will be drafted higher than any OSU QB outside of Schlicter... ever"
to which every one of you would have replied "of course.. no brainer"

Not "far" from a guarantee by a long shot. Many, if not most, expect him now to be in the driver's seat for the starting job.

If he doesn't get hurt. Not a wise bet in this offense.
Which is why they have insurance policies, which are paid only if a insure goes uninjured and gets drafted. Safe bet.

If he doesn't expose weaknesses or other flaws by coming back with more film on him (and time for defenses to adjust).
If he didn't display other "weaknesses" or "flaws" in those three games under those circumstances, chances are he either doesn't have them or they're insignificant.

If teams would feel that much better next year about a system QB with a killer team around him and 1-2 adjustments made for him before every snap.
Not sure what you're trying to say here.

If he doesn't feel that a few million is life changing by itself.
Again, a few million, before cuts and spread over 3-4 years, is nowhere near a few million.

If he doesn't want to give himself another year of earning power.
That's the risk: leaving early without giving himself to solidify or improve his stock.

If he doesn't want to play for free with all of the above uncertainty when he came here to make it to the NFL (like almost everyone else, he was just too vocal about it).
He's not playing "for free"...he's getting a paid-for education at a highly-respected institution. He can still get to the NFL, likely at a much higher draft pick, by staying another year.
