QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I rewatched the Army game Sunday and tried to pay particular attention to if JT held the ball too long or had any hitches. I can recall only one pass where he hitched at all, and most of the time he was quite decisive with his deliver. He did throw behind at least two receivers and missed a fairly open deep pass. To me, though, there was a noticeable improvement from the first two games...
that's what I saw too... He started kind of rough by throwing high a few times and forcing receivers to jump to catch them but as the game went you could tell he started knowing where to go and did so confidently. I have some optimism that we can play around JT's strengths and continue to build this thing week after week. At this point, the best thing we can all hope for is to have a finished product by October 28th and to roll from there.

Listening to the bucknuts morning 5 today and man Matt Baxendale (?) with Biddle dislikes JT hard core. It amazes me how ignorant some folks are regarding our new offensive direction.

Even with JT's pretty solid day Matt still wants him out (which I can understand a bit after seeing Haskins), but also had a huge issue with throwing so many passes into the flats wanting the ball to go down the field. Surprised how many folks just think you can show no underneath game and still hit your shots deep and still run the ball with no threat of getting stretched wide. This isn't what we're going to be doing all game every game this is the foundation in which we are going to build off of. Force people to take care of the box to deal with our running game, force people to somehow commit players wide to protect against the quick passes, and when it happens the middle of the field opens while also forcing teams to come up and defend us.

Keep throwing it out there regardless of what happens. Sure a team like PSU may stop 3 of every 5 we throw that way but even if we only break 2 of them that'll set up our offense for future dividends going over top.

If we set it up right and JT can't make teams pay that's when we will have an issue on our hands but until that time we need to see this new direction play out.

Did Oklahoma complete any passes downfield? I cannot remember any, and even if they did, they murdered OSU primarily with throws near the LOS as well as a number of intermediate throws.

That game was what we were expecting to see all offseason. Now we will have to wait to see if the line, QB & WRs can execute effectively against a better defense, but the offense wasn't beating itself schematically like it has so often under Urban's direction the past 2+ years.

Sounds like Matt Baxendale should do some film study. All those bubbles are a major reason that JK was able to run for 13.2ypc. And don't forget Paris' long TD run that was called back for (ticky tack imo) holding.

The bubble option opened everything else up. That was the most efficient they've been on offense since '14.

Exactly.. It's really annoying to these so called "experts" or "insiders" talk about how we cant throw the ball deep on Army. This is about forcing people to respect something other then our running game and to give us something to build this offense around. How they don't understand that you just can't throw it deep with no set up tells me these dudes don't understand foreplay before sex.

Wasn't pretty much all of '14 short and intermediate throws from JT? Obviously, they went overtop with Cardale... but there weren't a ton of long balls before that. Probably contributed to his completion percentage that year too... well, that and the pop-passes.

He is not going to be the long ball threat if Smith or Jones, but he will hit those 20-35 yd passes much better as he gains confidence. The schedule sets up nicely for he and Haskins to sharpen up. If there is a longish ball threat against Penn State, I am confident of at least a 10 point victory.
