QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

Still, folks need to lay off him for a while. Some on this board think that he should be singing, "Drive, drive on down the field..." while he's banging his wife.

That cuts both ways.

If those comments came from Mark May there would be a pretty hefty thread about what a tool he is, how it could possibly have a negative recruiting impact for OSU and how it shows he is biased against OSU for the "save the program" bullshit.

Some want to give Herbie slack, some want to hang him with it. I personally don't give a fuck if he moves but comments like the "program saving" game, "this will set the program back 10 years", "why would any elite offensive prospect go to OSU ?" etc are what gets me. Add in that fucking picture with the scUM band and he's in my personal least fav 5.

He simply doesn't have to go that far to prove he's not an OSU homer. At this point I don't think he's ever going to learn that.

Clark Kellogg and Jay Bilas have proven you can be be a former player/analyst without being biased towards your alma mater... and without making statements like what you pointed out above.

Give a guy a break...

Wow, people are hard on this site. Kirk is a Buckeye and does a great job. He is doing more for OSU sports than most anyone. His house in UA is a testimony to his success. He reports more evenly than we would do, which is his job by the way. If he needs to move closer to ESPN so be it. Let's get off a Buckeye who has made it and done so with honor and a lot of class.

We will miss you Herby!

Honor would be not trashing your alma mater just to be more popular with other teams fans. He could do his job just fine without referring to Maurice Clarrett five years after the fact.

.....states and I quote....the USC game can save the program.....

In general, I really enjoy Kirk's analyses - I think he's easily one of the best on ESPiN. However, I think the above statement is completely out of left field. He's infering the program *needs* saving, which is rediculous. We're a perennial power and will remain so, regardless of the final score in LA this Sept.

I don't think that the program saving is true, but it was his comment and he has to live with that and defend it.
How about his now yearly comments (after '07 & '08's bowls) about setting the program back 10 years, or the conference back to 1960 and likening the b10 to the MAC? Or scoffing at the notion of offensive playmakers going to play Tresselball?

These boneheaded comments have been increasing in frequency lately. Is he still sensitive from the UM-OSU 06 bandwagon fallout? Is ESPN up to their typical shock-jock tactics and forcing him to make these remarks?

Who knows... but it's beyond tiring.
