QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

I get it... but to me Buckeye nation is bit hard on him.

Yeah he was cocky but he did run into a bad situation with Justin Fields and then obviously was just too far behind at Miami to make an impact.

I hope he goes somewhere small to just get on the field.
Disagree, Buckeye nation treats him like an entitled spoiled brat , who was scared shitless at the first sign of adversity. He talked a big game at Justin Fields for absolutely no reason, I guess to try and make him choose another school for fear of competition. And when Justin called his bluff and still signed with OSU, he tucked his tail and ran. He didn’t run into a bad situation, he made the situation bad for himself because of his Twitter tough guy image.

I hope he ends up somewhere small as well and is given an opportunity to play QB. He seems set on playing QB, and he doesn’t have the talent for a big school IMO. But a G5 school running a spread would be great for him(Tulsa, UCF, Nevada, Hawaii, etc). RJYoung mentioned him going to aTm or Texas, and I think both would be terrible ideas. Those fan bases would eat him alive and almost rooting for him to fail. I don’t think he can take pressure, and though the aTm offense would fit his skill set, he would be expected to be the next Johnny Manziel from day1( good on field, and bad off field ), and though the guy was seen as a turd to most of the CFB community he was one of their most famed alum. And that’s some enormous shoes for Martell to fill

Yes he handled the JF situation badly and he shouldn't have done that. Is he sort of a brat as you say? For sure.

I just think piling on the kid isn't really necessary.

I agree him going to another power 5 school would be a mistake.

Smoke is UNLV. I'm sure they'll let him run around as much as he likes considering the team was a mess this year. 0-6, only averaged 17 PPG (119th in the country) and lost every game by at least 13 points. Good luck.

Piling on is what fans do . And IF he were to make the NFL, what we’re saying an doing would be nothing if he did the same immature antics that he did at OSU(case in point, take a quick gander at a Washington Football team message board)

Yeah he’d be a legend if he got them an exciting win, or some exciting losses. I would prefer he get far from the people who enable him in Vegas, but whatever.

Apparently he UNLV doesn't have any available scholarships:

UNLV’s quarterback for 2021 is on the team now

Recent developments such the NCAA transfer portal and immediate eligibility for transfers have turned the college landscape into a bit of a free-agent marketplace, with some teams jumping on the quarterback carousel after spring practice.

But while UNLV’s No. 1 spot is up for grabs, Arroyo said the solution won’t be coming from outside the program.

“We don’t have a choice,” Arroyo said. “We have no free agents. We’re out of scholarships.”

So, barring a corresponding move that opens up a roster spot, fans can stop speculating about Tate Martell or some other disgruntled QB coming in to save the day at the last minute. With UNLV at its scholarship limit, it will either be Brumfield, Rogers or Friel taking the snaps when the 2021 season kicks off.

“One of those guys has to be the starter,” Arroyo said.

I'm rooting for him... I know many in buckeye nation crap on this kid but he's been humbled and it's about time we supported this guy. It's not everyday the best QB transfers to take your job and IMO if that doesn't happen we still go to the playoffs in 2019.

Impressive workout video though. Hopefully he can get to somewhere at a UNLV level and get on the field. IMO he should take another year off and get into a college for the spring/summer to give himself better odds at starting.

he's been humbled
what evidence is there of this? I realize it was where he is training and not him directly, but posting locker room workout hype isn’t exactly the actions of a humble individual

Losing 2 straight position battles doesn't humble someone? So because he said "don't swing and miss" we just crap on this kid forever?

What did he ever do to our program otherwise?

There is a scale here, and there is plenty of room between not crapping on him and it being time to support him.

I’m all for finding a spot in the vast middle parts of that spectrum known as not caring.

Also, speaking of continuums, I’m only vaguely aware of his social media presence (again, big fan of the “don’t care” position here), but I’m going to go out on a limb and say there’s more evidence of not being humbled in between him saying “better not swing and miss” and now—up to, including, and after him losing additional position battles.

Tate has come off as an egotistical douche. He was the one who started the "twitter feud" with Fields. He kept it going after the Rose Bowl win in 2019 also when he said he had no desire to even meet Fields. When you haven't won the starting the job, don't run your mouth, especially to someone set to be your future teammate. And yes, Buckeye fans have every right to crap on an entitle brat for as long as they want. Not sure how a couple workout videos make him humble, he likes social media more than actually playing. If he liked playing he'd be on someone's roster studying the playbook, and possibly even learning a new position, because I still don't know how he expects to make any professional league as 5'10 QB(and spare me with the Kyler Murray name drop). I'm with @Buckeye86, I see no reason in me rooting for him. But that's just me

Have you heard a thing from him since he messaged JF not to come? Not a peep. He attempted to chase Justin out and it was a stupid move. That said he's said nothing and done nothing since.

As such I wish him well. Shoot I wish anyone well that hasn't done anything personally to me.
