On the flip side, I'm not sure how you can say he's got all this "upside " when he has played precious little when a game really mattered. I know this is a Buckeye site, but your comments just smack of pure homerism, nothing more.

Troy Smith might re-consider crawling to Cleveland
A week ago, Troy Smith's agent said the Ravens backup quarterback "would crawl from Baltimore right now to be able to play in Cleveland."

Well, Smith might want to re-think such a journey.

Since those comments, the Browns traded for Seneca Wallace on Monday and signed free agent Jake Delhomme on Saturday. So, Cleveland wouldn't be a viable destination unless Smith wants to be a third-string quarterback.

Smith was tendered by the Ravens as a restricted free agent. A team would have to give up a fifth-round draft pick as compensation for signing Smith to an offer sheet.

According to the Ravens, Smith worked out at team headquarters last week, and he has been around the facility throughout the offseason.

Well, signing Delhomme, who produces more turnovers than Pepperidge Farm, shows such a profound lack of intelligence that we can safely assume that any choice Browns management makes will be be a bad one. Troy probably is best off in Baltimore: Flacco, who, by the way didn't really play all that well last year, will inevitably get hurt and then Troy can show his wares in a familiar system: If he produces, he'll then have much more leverage to get a real shot somewhere else.

That running game has opened up that offense in huge ways for Flacco and although I think he is pretty good, he is vastly OVERRATED. Now with Boldin the excuses of him not having a WR can end.

 Five destinations for Troy Smith

Last week the AFC North blog took a look at five possible destinations for former Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn, and we hit at home run by listing the Denver Broncos No. 2 on the list.

So let's continue that hot streak and take a look at Baltimore Ravens quarterback and restricted free agent Troy Smith, who has just a fifth-round tender. Interest should pick up for Smith soon as most of the decent unrestricted free-agent quarterbacks are signed.

5. Cleveland Browns

Skinny: Let me first say that I don't believe this will happen. But the fact Smith himself made it clear Cleveland, his hometown team, is his first choice makes it worthy to put on the list. But the feeling doesn't seem mutual and the Browns appear ready to move on with Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace.

4. St. Louis Rams

Skinny: The Rams need everything, particularly a quarterback. Whether the team takes rookie Sam Bradford with the top pick, quarterback depth is still needed on the roster. But Smith may not fit their system.

3. Carolina Panthers

Skinny: Matt Moore is the starter in Carolina, but who knows if he's the real deal. Smith wouldn't be a bad second option for a fifth-rounder in case Moore falters or gets injured.

2. Buffalo Bills

Skinny: I'm convinced Trent Edwards is not a starting NFL quarterback. In a head-to-head competition, Smith might be able to beat him out.

1. Oakland Raiders

Skinny: Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson coached Smith in Baltimore and could want a familiar face who knows the system. A possible competition among Smith, JaMarcus Russell and Bruce Gradkowski would be interesting.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Troy Smith has changed representation, hiring Neil Cornrich as his new agent, according to NFL Players Association records.

Former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith has a new agent.

The former Heisman Trophy winner from Ohio State had previously requested a trade through his former agent, Ralph Cindrich.

We're told that Smith hasn't stopped asking for a trade, but there has been no action toward his personal goal as far as a market materializing for him.

Smith is a restricted free agent who was assigned an original-round tender.
