Northwestern extends Walker's contract through 2011

Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Northwestern head football coach Randy Walker had his contract extended through the 2011 season. He was previously inked through the 2007 campaign.
Walker, who joined the Wildcats in 1999 after a successful nine-year tenure at Miami-Ohio, earned an initial extension after leading the Wildcats to a share of the 2000 Big Ten championship.
"I'm really pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with Randy on a contract extension," said athletic director Mark Murphy. "I have tremendous respect for the way he runs the program."
Walker has 37 wins at Northwestern, which ranks second on the school's all-time list. He is the first Northwestern coach to engineer three different teams to the postseason.
Northwestern went 7-5 overall last season, including 5-3 in the Big Ten.

Smart move by the Wildcats. I think he's the best coach they're ever going to get to come there, and he has done pretty a pretty good job by Wildcat standards. I think they're in some big trouble this year, but Walker will have them back again soon.

It's amazing that 37 wins puts him second on their all-time list. He's doing a good job IMO given that NU really does operate under academic restrictions that the rest of the league doesn't and has a comparatively limited budget, facilities, and tradition relative to the big boys.

Another Miami of Ohio Coach for NW

It looks like another Miami of Ohio coach is doing well at Northwestern. Ara Parsegian was a tough act to follow, but it now looks like it has been done by Randy Walker. Now if Terry Hoeppner can bring it off in Indiana, Miami U. will continue to live up to it's nickname of the 'Cradle of Coaches'.

Go Skins! Whoops, Redhawks!

All I can say is :gobucks3: :osu4: :banger:

I can't stand Walker, but he's a damn good coach offensively. He lines all his ducks (recruiting) in offense. He relies on a cycle of senior leadership every 2-3 years. Defensively he lands the random stud from time to time. Their defense is slanted towards the MLB, everything flows to him. That does equate to more gawdy numbers........with hope to attract another top knotch MLB.

For Northwestern, he's about as good as it gets. They rely on up and comers (like a good MAC school does) with wide open offenses with the hope to unpset a big guy once or twice a season. Walker is that guy.
