Bri'onte Dunn still a Buckeye ... for now

TIGARD, Ore. -- Bri'onte Dunn knew the question was coming before it was asked.

"You're going to ask me if I'm committed to Ohio State or not," said Dunn, the nation's No. 13 running back from Canton (Ohio) GlenOak, during registration Tuesday for The Opening. "Man, I'm getting sick of the questions, but I know why people are curious. It's something I think about all the time, too."

Dunn has become the center of one of the nation's most heated recruiting battles.

The 6-foot-1, 222-pound back originally committed to Ohio State in September 2010, but with the departure of Jim Tressel, schools have continued to heavily recruit him. With offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Cincinnati, Illinois, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee and others, Dunn says he's still with the Buckeyes -- for now.

Contd....

Running back Bri'onte Dunn (Canton, Ohio/Glenoak) is a fan of interim Ohio State coach Luke Fickell.

"I would like to play for coach Fickell," Dunn said. "I think he's a good coach and he loves Ohio State. I have built up a good relationship with him."

The 6-foot, 220-pounder is an Ohio State commit but could prove to be a tough one to hold on to if the NCAA decides to punish the program.

"I'm going to wait until August to see what happens with Ohio State; hopefully nothing will happen, but that's why I'm keeping my options open," Dunn said.

Those options are Michigan, Penn State and Miami. Dunn already has been to Michigan.

"The Michigan coaching staff is great. I liked everything there and my parents liked everything," Dunn said. "I'm planning on visiting Penn State and Miami."

Dunn says the shock of Jim Tressel's resignation has worn off a little.

"I was surprised, I was hurt, but you have to move on," Dunn said. "I'm here to play for Ohio State."

Sometimes a commit is in a tough situation, such as Canton (Ohio) Oakglen running back Bri'onte Dunn. He is committed to Ohio State, but with the possibility of NCAA sanctions looming, he's admitted to keeping his options open while waiting for a verdict.

And that's just enough for several committed prospects from rival schools to get in his ear.

"Some of the guys from Michigan are just telling me I need to switch," Dunn said. "And Se'Von Pittman, one of the other guys from Canton, he's going to Michigan State and he tells me a little about MSU."
