RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

With others, I have been very disappointed with the number of carries Carlos has gotten in the last couple games (especially on the goal line). Still our leading ground gainer. Should get plenty of good work vs Indiana. Hope he demonstrates, and the staff recognizes, how valuable he can be down the stretch.

Sophmore stats for every Buckeye tailback who has been drafted* over the past 20 years or so:

Scottie Graham:
73-253-3.5-2

Butler By'not'e:
152-648-4.3-5

Raymont Harris:
76-323-4.3-2

Eddie George:
85-338-4.0-2

Pepe Pearson:
83-385-4.6-3

Joe Montgomery:
30-105-3.5-0

Michael Wiley:
105-588-5.6-6

Jonathan Wells:
51-292-5.7-3

Antonio Pittman:
243-1331-5.5-7

Beanie Wells:
274-1609-5.9-15

Boom Herron:
153-600-3.9-7

Carlos Hyde (through 9 games):
93-513-5.5-6

(12 game pace):
124-684-5.5-8

So Carlos is on pace to have more yards than any Buckeye soph TB except Pittman & Wells; only Tone, Beanie, Boom & BB had more carries and he's on track to have more TDs than all but Beanie.. That is all without counting potential bowl (or CCG) stats.

Really not much to complain about there.

*Reecie & Robert Smith were both omitted due to not playing as Sophs.

Ohio State notebook: Hyde gets confidence boost with 100-yard w
By Tim May, Bill Rabinowitz and Adam Jardy
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Sunday November 6, 2011

When he walked to Ohio Stadium yesterday with the rest of the Ohio State football team, Carlos Hyde didn?t know he would become part of a footnote in history.

But he did know he was going to play, and that put a bounce in his step.

?It just boosted my confidence,? Hyde said after a 34-20 win over Indiana. ?I know the game, because I?ve been out there in the first five games, so I had a good feel out there. ? I couldn?t wait to get out there. It was just emotional.?

Call that feeling the opposite of what he felt three weeks ago. Coming off his first 100-yard performance in a loss at Nebraska, Hyde was relegated to mop-up duty behind Daniel Herron and Jordan Hall in the Buckeyes? win at Illinois. Then, last week, he didn?t play at all in a win over Wisconsin.

But yesterday, with Hall out because of a high ankle sprain, Hyde went in as Herron?s backup and knew he was going to play. He responded with 105 yards, including a 47-yard run in the fourth quarter to set up a 2-yard touchdown run. In the process, he joined Herron (141 yards) and quarterback Braxton Miller (105) as the first OSU threesome to crack 100 in a game since 1989.

?The confidence is high,? Hyde said. ?I feel like we have a great group of running backs, and we?re all capable of going over 100 and doing big things in a game. And today we did a great job running the ball.?
