RB Erik Haw (official thread)

If he goes to a Div-IA team, does he have to wait a year after transferring, or is it just a year, period? I mean, does he have to transfer before the season starts, then sit out this year, or can he sit out this year, and then transfer as late as this time next year and then play next year?

I'm hoping he goes somewhere that Ohio State doesn't have to play him.

Basically, he would have to sit out for 1 year before he could play at another Division 1-A footbal team.

This italicized quote is from guidelines on transfer rules for 2004-05. They have since been updated, and made more complicated, but he would have to compete 18-semester hours or 27-quarter hours at the new college before he could compete for them:

"If you transfer to a member institution from a four-year college, you must complete one academic year of residence at the certifying institution before being eligible to compete for or to receive travel expenses from the member institution, unless you qualify for a transfer exception waiver."

Note - Haw has no chance at getting a 'transfer exception waiver". Nobody that transfers from one Division I-A football program to another Division I-A football program is eligible for a waiver, unless he spent at least 18 months in the military or on a mission, or if the school he left dropped football.

its funny because i've been around alot of message boards and its crazy how much people are bashin MoWells because of the fact that Haw is transferring...

Bashing? What could anyone bash Mo Wells about? I personally think Haw could be/is the better Big Ten back, but Mo Wells has obviously come in and done everything asked of him therefor putting him higher on JT's list.

That's kind of ironic. Goings went to Pitt, and it looks like Haw, another "past" Buckeye with potential, may be headed there, as well.

I was thinking the same thing. And note that Goings went to the "promised land" (NFL) after riding pine at OSU.

Its sad to see him go because he is a born and bred Ohioan and Buckeye, but I think both parties are better off this way. We dont lose any talent after this year (in the backfield that is), and will actually be gaining another 2 backs, so this benefits him as well, with not droping any further on the charts.

Good luck to him though.

He should go to Youngstown State...imagine the Penguin offense with him at RB and Irizarry at TE. If he plays well enough even at the I-AA level, he'll get a look from the NFL scouts.
