RB Jermil Martin (transfer to Northwestern Oklahoma State)

That's big news for Jermil. I remember there being some talk last year about the coaches being so impressed with his ball carrying skills, that they were unsure whether he would actually be considered a FB. Somebody always profits from another's loss, and in this case it would be Hyde's loss.

EDIT: Post #62:
"It was obvious that JT was very impressed with this kid in the Jersey scrimmage. Said he played both TB and FB and looked very good. Coach said, "Boy, can he run".
He also mentioned having a kid that big run into people late in the game."

I think Martin will be just fine in the grinder role...he ran the ball effectively at Glenville and while it's diassapointing Hyde won't be here this year, it gives Jermil an opportunity.

Tressel always likes three tailbacks who can carry the ball, and behind Herron and Saine, Berry is the most likely candidate at this time. With one of the other running backs in this recruiting class, Carlos Hyde, failing to make the cut academically and headed to prep school, the Buckeyes needed Berry to get to campus and to the start of camp, one way or another.

Martin a tailback possibility, too:

Martin, a redshirt freshman from Glenville High, can't wait to get his hands on the ball now that he has moved back to tailback after spending his redshirt season as a fullback.

"I was kind of upset about the fullback thing," Martin said of his job a year ago, "but I just wanted to help the team. Now I'm in a better situation. Honestly, I always had it in the back of my mind and I felt if I worked hard enough I might deserve the ball."

Martin's move came about because of Hyde's absence and because of the potential of true freshmen Adam Homan and Zach Boren at fullback. At 6-0, 227, Martin brings more bulk than any other tailback option, but he'll have to impress in the preseason to earn some carries

Terrelle Pryor isn't the only Ohio State player to wear his OSU allegiance on his skin. Junior defensive end Thaddeus Gibson of Euclid High and redshirt freshman fullback Jermil Martin of Glenville High have also inked up for the Buckeyes

Martin on his tattoo: "I got it in December. I told the artist I wanted Glenville going into Ohio State, and this is what he came up with. I get a lot of compliments on it. People like it. There are a few guys with them, but I was the first in my class to get it. Terrelle followed me. I love Ohio State and I just have seen what this program has done for many people, whether they're going to the NFL or just further in their career or life. This is part of my blood, so I decided to get it on my skin."

Very encouraging play by both Martin and Hall in the absence of BOOM & ZOOM. Jermil is a beast with a BIG body, nice vision and quickness for a guy his size. We will definitely need him when we face Penn State and need the short yardage pick up.

Nail was long in the coffin at that point IMO.

Great to see the young man get in the endzone..

Looking like Keith... I jokingly said the same thing.

I said the EXACT same thing on his first run.

Worried the shit out of me - I thought I was in a time warp
