RB John Clay (official thread)

As for Mr. Clay, however, he's the real deal. He's listed at 6-3 and 230, yet on a nifty 52-yard touchdown run he made a quick cut at the line of scrimmage to make one tackler miss completely, blasted through a couple of arm tackles, and sprinted right by a couple of d-backs who thought they had the right angle. He put up nearly 300 yards in the 42-35 loss, and showed all the physical tools necessary to play at a much higher level.

From an interview with the father of teammate Matt Simmons, John is supposedly leaning towards Michigan.

Seemed like some sour grapes about the lack of Wisky attention to Simmons...

It didn't say that. It said "was" leaning toward Michigan. It said that Clay is currently leaning toward Wisconsin.

John is down to Ohio State, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Nebraska and Iowa. He is tryiing to set up his visit to Columbus.

For those in the know, is it really that difficult to set up a visit. I mean, it seems like every recruit is "trying to set up" a visit. Does it take more than a smile for these top recruits or is that them just playing nice with the reporters?

I just assume they mean it takes time. They've still got school, practice, and homework so there's not a ton of time to talk with coaches and set up visits. I wouldn't look too much into it but then again I'm not an expert.

I completely understand what you're saying, but I guess my question is why not say "I'm setting up a visit to" said school. Is there the question that "trying to set up a visit" implys or is it just the way they're saying it that brings up the question. I guess long story short, what goes into setting up a visit, is it just a matter of a blue chip recruit saying "I'd like to visit said Saturday" or does it take more than that?

Sorry for hijacking this thread, please cut it and place it where it belongs, this is just something this thread has caused me to question.

maybe just merely trying to figure out what weekend is best for team and recruit.

Probably right, just didn't think it would require that much "trying" but I completely see it. Just caught me as odd. Sorry Mods for my off topic trail.

Tremper (4-3) remained alive for the playoffs. The Trojans used an inspired defensive effort to force six turnovers - three fumbles and three interceptions - and they blocked a punt and an extra point. They also corralled Park's all-state running back, John Clay, holding the senior to 89 yards in 21 carries with one touchdown.

"Our entire defense swarmed to the ball on almost every play," Tremper coach Frank Matrise Jr. said. "They worked extremely hard as a group."

Led by defensive linemen David Kelsch and Steve Sharp, Tremper limited Clay to 35 yards in 10 carries in the first half.

I wonder if the success of PJ Hill and him being a freshman has an impact on John...

Hill will only be a sophmore when Clay gets to campus, and they are both similar runners in that they are between the tackly , power runners so neither would really be a change of pace...

Or does Clay see the Wisonsin Offense continuously churn out 1000 rushers and want to be a part of that?
