RB John Clay (official thread)

Even if this kid came here and redshirted, by the time he was ready to play... Saine would be a RS Freshman or Sophmore (unless he plays at WR) Beanie Wells would be a Junior and Haw and mo Wells would be Seniors.

I think he is going to go somewhere with less depth.

I think you guys are misconstruing what he's saying. He never said tOSU is the favorite. He said at the top of his list. At the top with 5 other teams? I don't know. A day ago he said he wants more offers, which would seem to me that he's saying he's wide open. Anyway, reading too much into what Clay says is pointless, because he's constantly contradicting himself. He said the most important thing to him was playing right away. tOSU would be the worst place to go to do that. John Clay wants to be validated. It doesn't necessarily make him a bad person. People shouldn't be dissing him so much with the lame rivals ranking and lack of offers. Still, there might be a lot of frustrated fans at the end of this from many teams who feel like they were taken for a ride.

First off, those article were posted one day after the other but the interviews could have been done days apart and the sites were just spacing things out. Having said that, Bernini is right...you can't take what you read from a media outlet as gospel. These articles are meant to provide info, but also to generate buzz and more sales. Despite all of that, I have heard that Clay's interest in OSU is genuine.

If we can get Clay this year and Ashley next year... solid depth at the RB position.

If Clay would redshirt a year... he could be set for a solid 3 years as a starter.
after a RS year... Chris Wells - JR, Maurice Wells - SR, Erik Haw - SR, Antonio Pittman - NFL, Clay - RS FR, Ashley - FR.
Beanie will be good enough to leave early, Wells and Haw would have graduated. Perfect situation, and if John looks at the history and tradition we have at the position... there shouldn't be a question who he picks.

it seems like he would be an osu lock if we didn't have the roster we have now, especially just recruiting beenie, but hell, lets hope he still comes over, he is soooooooo friggn' good

I think that's pretty presumptious and baseless. An OSU lock? Kind of like Oglesby was going to tOSU because he liked Orlando Pace. Or Wisconsin wasn't even in the picture for Travis Beckum. You have to consider pretty much every prospect that grows up in Wisconsin, and that Wisconsin wants, to be a Wisconsin lean, especially one who plays a position that the Badgers have had significant success at. Heck, Wisconsin's new offensive coordinator Paul Chryst ran the offense at Oregon State when Stephen Jackson was the running back there. Stephen Jackson is similar in size and style to Clay. One year in Wisconsin's offense with Chryst and Calhoun went from a non prospect to a 1st day draftee. It would have given tOSU legitimate hope if they had a favorable depth chart, but to say he would have been a lock for tOSU is flat out ignorant.

Except for Rhyan Anderson, Raymond Henderson, Pierre Rembert, and Adam Stenavich, you do have a point.

Rhyan Anderson was not from Wisconsin. He was from Oklahoma, only went to Oak Creek High School in Wisconsin for a few years, and couldn't wait to get back to the warm weather. It was said for a long time that the Badgers lost interest in Henderson for character issues, and as you saw, they reared their ugly head in Tennessee, getting him kicked off the team. The only guy that Wisconsin has lost out that they really wanted since 2002 (when rivals and scout archive ranking prospects back to) is Brian Calhoun, who of course ended up back in Wisconsin. Versus the ones who did originally go to Wisconsin.

All had extensive offer lists or clearly would have had they not have been very early commits:

Joshua Oglesby
Travis Beckum
Joe Thomas
Justin Ostrowski
Nick Hayden
Kraig Urbik
Lance Kendricks
Jake Bscherer
Gabe Carimi (parade all american, pursued by USC and Michigan after committed)
Andy Kemp?

I'd say that's a pretty darn good rate, and evidence to guess that Wisconsinites probably should be considered Wisconsin leans. Obviously that's different if you didn't grow up there, only went to school there. Good thing that John Clay is a Wisconsite born and raised. And my post was in response to the guy who said he'd be a tOSU lock if you guys had a more favorable depth chart. Considering these facts and the fact tOSU hasn't gotten a top Wisconsin player in a while, makes that far from reality.

i wasn't trying to insult wisconsin, i think they are his leader now, and they make the most sense from a non biased viewpoint, especially with oglesby coming in, but i still think he would get pt and be great at ohio state and should go there, but that is biased there, all i was sayin is that the fact that he is still high on ohio state despite the heavy HEAVY competition means that he really really likes us, maybe lock was a strong word, but if he likes us even tho we just recruited the #1 running back in the country i can't imagine he wouldn't feel even stronger about osu had we not had such depth at his position

to say every wisconsin kid is a lock is kinda naive, i know thats what you would like it to be but i would like every ohio kid to be an osu lock, however there are manninghams and boren's out there who find a situation they like more, thats the reality
