RB Maurice Clarett (B1G Freshman of the Year, National Champion)

Buckeye Alum and Bronco Fan

I agree with pick because the draft is all based on potential and it is not a science. He has the best vision/patience I have seen in a running back for a long long time. His desire to make an impact will probably lead to early injuries like any rookie running backs that do not understand how to pace themselves in the NFL. I hope on Monday Night he says "The Ohio State Buckeyes" because then we all can move on. Chris Carter would be a good example of a Buckeye that made a wrong decision at OSU but is still a legend and turned his life around in the NFL. Life is too short to hate and I will never forget us beating Miami and Maurice was a big part of it. I will also never forgive him for throwing people and the program under the bus, but years down the road it may have been the best thing to happen. OSU football is bigger than life and sometimes you need a wake up call and have to believe that both football and basketball are now not the best but also the cleanest programs in the country and look at the recruits who are taking notice.

Interesting NCAA Press Release

This is out of character for the NCAA. Somebody pissed off somebody.

Statement by NCAA Vice-President of Enforcement Services David Price on Maurice Clarett and the Investigation at Ohio State University

“As a clarification to recent comments made in the media, the NCAA enforcement staff attempted on numerous occasions to interview Maurice Clarett during its investigation of Ohio State University.

“Not once did Mr. Clarett respond to our repeated requests to meet with investigators or provide information.

“Specifically, over the course of a month in November and December 2004, phone calls were placed to Mr. Clarett’s reported cell phone numbers, relatives, former legal representatives and friends. But the messages left were never returned. In addition, attempts to contact him in person failed.

“The NCAA enforcement staff approaches every investigation in a thorough and impartial manner to fully investigate potential infractions at NCAA member institutions. However, as a voluntary membership organization, the NCAA has no subpoena authority or other mechanism to compel testimony from any individual.

“NCAA procedures prevent staff from commenting on specific elements of investigations prior to their completion. The procedures do, however, allow staff to correct erroneous or incomplete information that has been made public in the course of investigations.”

We can only hope that MC has destroyed his credibility to the point he will no longer be listened to on this issue. Certainly the NCAA must consider that door closed. However, he is a time bomb. When the investigation was going on he was trying to rebuild his rep. He couldn't answer NCAA questions without either 1) continuing to trash OSU while trying to get into the NFL or 2) exposing himself as a liar.

At some point silence will once again not be an issue for him and some bottom dwelling reporter (someone from ESPN perhaps) will put a mic in his face and this will start up again.

The good news is that I don't see anyway that 1) the NCAA can reopen this for a third time or 2) ESPN can continue their attacks without a live interview with MC - which wont happen as long as he is in the NFL.

This will never really go away.

No, we're just going to be stuck seeing MoC on highlights every time he carries the ball 1 time for 3 yards in a preseason game, complete with the requisite "He overcame more than Jackie Robinson to get those 3 yards" comments from our ESPiN assclown pals. Still, if they restrict it to gushing over him, instead of trashing us, I will be satisfied.

Here is Tom Friend's problem. First off I am including him for argument sake in the category of a news media person who would fall under the protection of the 1st Amendment. ESPN has consistently taken the position that it is an entertainment media that does not fall under the equal access provisions of federal law. With that said, the 1st Amendment in many instances protects a news media person from being compelled to reveal his or her sources. Everybody and their mama knows who Friend's source is - it's Clarett in case anybody just awoke from a 5 year coma. There is absolutely nothing - N O T H I N G - preventing Tom Friend from handing over to the NCAA what Tom Friend has uncovered as "evidence" of OSU misdeeds. N O T H I N G ! Tom Friend is a lying little weasal who just got caught with his pants down. ESPN desperately wants this to go away, but Tom Friend just cannot shut his mouth. Time for Friend to fish or cut bait. He is in possession of information that is purportedly is evidence of OSU wrongdoing or purportedly will lead to evidence of OSU wrongdoing with absolutely no legal restriction from turning it over to the NCAA. There is only one reason why he will not do so - because there ain't no there, there.

I agree. Tom Friend has no evidence and is covering his ass. NCAA investigators are not idiots... if there was information, they could have found it with or without Clarett. I also agree that ESPN wants this to go away now. Monday's press confrence (no matter how they word their headlines) could not have gone worse for them. The fact that people like Dan Patrick are even raising the question "does ESPN owe Ohio State an apology" speaks volumes... they know they F'd up.

Lightning...Gertrude Stein couldn't have said it better!

I'm happy NCAA provided a large spike upon which espin, mc and friend can hang their hats...for everyone to see.

It would be great for espin to see the light and come forth with an apology to the Buckeye Nation. Until they do, it's unfinished business. Especially friend and those two assholes who ranted for AG's and JT's hides during bowl game.

As for mc: his character is well established. I'm guessing he has been removed from a few "A-lists."

I know he was exploring all facets which is nice to see, but why did he lead with the covering the tracks in every situation? I felt that was kind of a cheap shot after the bell, so to speak, because to me I think the program has been open from the start, but maybe I read too much into it...
