RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

This is what Newberg had to say about Wells

Quote:
In my opinion, he may be a top 10 back nationally. I think Antoine Smith is the No. 1 back in FL. It's a deep year for RBs. Don't get me wrong, Wells is a very good player but there are many backs I would take over him like Smith, Coker, Grady, Stewart, Harris, Lewis, Baker, etc. I just prefer the bigger sized back and Wells is 170-175 pounds.

Duane Long also has a similar opinion- he is not as high on MoW either

I don't know. For a small guy he packs a punch. Squats 450 pounds and as 2% body fat. A small guy with that much power and that lean has to be hard to get a hold of and bring down.

KSB- I agree and thought the video clips on MoW were spectacular. Duane might have a bias against small backs. Rivals has MoW as their top back, I guess Insiders is going to rate him lower. Big deal. I don't think Tress or Pete Carroll care what the guru's think.

Add me to the list.... I wouldn't make him my #1 guy (that would be Marlon Lucky), but he's pretty darned good. I certainly won't complain if he signs with the Bucks.

As far as Wells' videos are concerned, the guy barely got touched within ten yards of the line of scrimmage, so it's hard to judge his power. Suffice it to say, once he's in the open field, he's gone. The problem will be getting him into the clear....

This football season I will have a chance to follow Sandalwood high since i live here in Jacksonville. I will keep you guys posted on his games and give you a rundown of what i see in his performances. I am kind of excited about doing this and it would be nice if he comes to Ohio State. The only kid from Jacksonville to be on Ohio States roster in the past 5 years was Bobby Britton out of Raines High in 1999.

He did an interview on the BN Radio Hour. Nothing really new to report. USC, Georgia Tech and Ohio State lead and his family wants him to be a Buckeye. They also want him to take all his visits as well. If he still wants to wait to announce on the CTSD show it's gonna be a while. We seem to be in pretty good position though.

He is none other than the highly touted Jacksonville (Fla.) prospect Maurice Wells who is having little trouble with recruiting when it comes to offers. Almost every conference has shown much love to the talented Wells with offers from all over.
However, he is remaining very firm on who he likes. His top three remains in tact.
Highlights:
  • Georgia Tech, USC, and Ohio State still lead
  • USC may have more depth than GT and OSU... however he still likes them
  • Family still remains a large part of the decision making process
  • The three current favorites will receive official visits
  • Notre Dame and Maryland are possible official visits
  • His three favorites are also recruting him the hardest
  • A quick decision is unlikely

Helping Hand: Why aren't we hearing more about Maurice Wells?

For this kid being right in it for OSU, things have been strangely quiet. I mean, this kid is the Mark Sanchez of Running backs. He is arguably the best prep back in the nation and there seems to be absolutely nothing on him. I know that he has OSU, GA Tech, and USC as the schools that he likes, but that's about it.

Is this lack of info good or bad? It has been my take that with no offer to Ringer (the top back in Ohio) yet, the coaches must feel absolutely certain about their chances of landing Maurice Wells. Am I way off?

It's all about MV3 right now. M Wells isn't going to announce until I believe Feb. As soon as Kevin Bemoll and Mark Sanchez announce then we'll pick up more chatter on others. imo Wells is right up there in importance with Sanchez and Adam Myers-White.

I talk to Wells once a week. He is still doing good. He has been working out & learning a new system. A lot of teams are making a play at him right now, but OSU still has the inside track.

Coach T. and staff are doing a great job with this kid.
