RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

Duane thinks he "is clearly the #1 back in the country this year."

Why Rod Smith may be the most important get of the class

He has a lot of good things to say about him.

Good stuff from him, he's dead on about break away speed, feet, etc.. Like I said earlier, he could very easily be a 5* top 2 or 3 back in the country. I really like his comments about Smith's ability to catch the ball vs. Wells. This bring Borat pleasure.

Wow! For Duane to say that Smith is better than Beanie is quite lofty praise....

:osu:

Not so fast, my friend... what's missing here?

Add either Spencer Ware or Erick Howard and i think we are solid at RB for awhile , lol !!!

Eh not so much so on Howard, too similar to Smith imo. Either way I say Corey Brown or nobody else at this point...I am fine with Smtih being the only RB in this class with Hall, Hyde, and Berry possibly all being RB's from '09.

Rewatching Rod's film I was just struck by how he hit the hole full speed everytime...there is no hesitation running the ball. He is very instictual and add that with his size and athleticism and I think you will see him get early PT, regardless of who all we have. All the elite backs that play early have the size and instincts. Don't be fooled though, his top end speed is excellent as well and he is a definite home run threat. I think he could possibly be the #2 RB in the country behind Lattimore...he is not better than Beanie at this stage though, Beanie was way more powerful and still had the great speed.

Although I've only seen a short highlight film, his combination of speed and power is extremely impressive, and he shows some ability to make people miss. If his vision (tough to judge with a small sample) and work ethic are also top notch, he has a chance to be one of the greats.

This is great news. We need a powerback on this roster. I realize we have Hyde and Boom (I don't really consider Boom a powerback, but some might), but Smith looks like he could be in the mold of the typical OSU powerback (Eddie, Beanie, and Byars). Go Bucks!!! :osu:

Don't forget Jamaal "fast as lightning " Berry !!! LOL

These recent developments have me pretty excited to get over to Ft. Wayne and watch Rod play. I am interested in their schedule (whenever that becomes available) and even though I am not the one you guys want the details from, I will certainly give you what I can.
No clue if anyone helped you out on this yet, but here's a link to their schedule. Ft. Wayne Dwenger (Sept. 18) and Snider (Oct. 2) are always pretty good teams (from what the final polls say).

Harding

Glad to see this kid is a Buckeye. Looks like a phenomenal talent.
