Real Racing, Formula One, F1 (official thread)

Why is Hamilton so hated in F1? Seems like a good enough dude and also the GOAT.

.

And the constant need to try and diminish his accomplishments by saying it's just the car. If you watch some of the races where he's had to storm back in the last ten laps, it ain't just the car.

And Schumacher--whose Ferarris were absolute rocket ships compared to the rest of the field--never had to deal with the snide, backbiting comments about it being just the car.

I don't know. There just must be something different about Hamilton to drive that kind of foaming at the mouth hatred. I just can't quite put my finger on it.

He’s supremely talented at adapting to what his car is giving him. If he’s suffering from grip issues, he still finds ways to put down nice lap times. He also knows how to race aggressively without jeopardizing his chances at solid finishes. Whereas you have a guy like Verstappen who if he isn’t getting his way, and making a quick pass, he just wrecks your ass and still somehow gets away with it. I could not have been any happier with Week 1 and how the race played out. Karma at its finest. Also pretty nice seeing Alfa looking competitive. Bottas and Zhou is a nice pairing.

Saudi-Arabia-Race-Podium-2022.jpeg

At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Sunday, Verstappen won but Ferrari finished 2nd (Leclerc) and 3rd (Sanz). I'll say it isn't just Red Bull and Mercedes this year, Ferrari is in the mix too.

Ferrari

Ferrari may have lost a second successive victory in the closing stages in Jeddah, but the famous red team are not panicking. This is, after all, their best start to a F1 campaign since 2004.

P2 for Leclerc and third for Sainz gave them 33 points, leaving them 40 clear of next best Mercedes. It was the first time they got both cars on the podium in consecutive races since 2019.

For Leclerc, he’s already scored more podiums in 2022 than he did in all of 2021. For Sainz, it was his third-straight podium and 17th consecutive points finish. Ferrari have the momentum – and are making the most of a package that looks like world title-contending machinery.

Mercedes is about three steps behind Ferrari and Red Bull right now. Their PU seems to be a step below and they have some serious aero issues. Scuderia Ferrari!

My wife and I will be going to the Spanish Grand Prix at the end of May. To say we're excited is a huge understatement.

Las Vegas to host Saturday night Formula One race in 2023

i

Formula One cars will race under the lights down the Las Vegas strip in 2023 as part of a new event on the championship calendar, joining Austin and Miami as U.S. host venues.

Las Vegas will hosts its event on a Saturday night in November, a rarity in an F1 calendar featuring grand prix events on Sundays.

The race will feature some of the city's most famous landmarks, hotels and casinos in what is a multiyear deal with F1.

The 3.8 mile (6.2km) circuit will see cars flash by Caesars Palace, Bellagio Fountain and Mandalay Bay, as well as the ball-shaped MSG Sphere, which is currently under construction and set for completion next year.

The date of the first event is yet to be confirmed.

Max drove a good, clean race. Even then, he couldn't help himself and was constantly whining into the radio. He even used the phrase "it's so unfair!" Fuck that guy.
It’s interesting to see guys slowing down just before they cross the line that determines whether or not they’ll have DRS for the oncoming lap, which means the next straightaway. For those that don’t watch F1, DRS is the ability to use an adjustable rear wing that reduces the car’s drag, and can yield a few more MPH at the end of a long straightaway. The driver who is within 1 second of his opponent is allowed to use it for the upcoming lap under most race situations.

In the last race, the two lead cars were fairly equal, and when a guy passed his opponent just before the line, the opponent would roar back and re-take the lead at the end of the next straightaway due to DRS. Once they both realized that, they preferred to be the guy in second place at the line, and they were playing cat-and-mouse to not have the lead at the wrong time. Seeing guys not want to have the lead was something I don’t recall seeing in F1.

Changes to the cars this season have made them seem to be more equal, at least through the first two races. More passing does make the races somewhat more entertaining to watch. We’ll see how long it takes for money and technology to reduce the impact of the new design.

OK, who was up at 1 AM to watch the Australian GP live?

I recorded it and watched it earlier this AM.

The order of finish was Leclerc (Ferrari), Perez (Red Bull), and Russell (Mercedes). Leclerc pretty much dominated; he won the pole, lead the entire race, and got the fastest lap point too.

Hamilton was 4th and late in the race Verstappen broke down again and DNF.

McLaren is establishing itself as #4 in the pecking order finishing 5th (Norris) and 6th (Riccardo).
