Reds' Opening Day thread...

I went to the game today and let me tell you it was freezing. It was completely unbearable. On top of it being cold outside, the wind would not stop blowing. We ended up leaving early and going to a sports bar to watch the rest of the game.

The ballgame itself was horrible. We cant pitch, we cant hit w/RISP, and Dunn cant field. Two of the three balls that Dunn missed were routine fly balls. Maybe we shouldnt have made the trade for Bronson Arroyo. I cant believe I'm saying this, but today we needed Wily Mo pena in Left Field.

Encarnacion looked pretty bad at the plate. He looked overmatched against Zambrano, but Zambrano is tough. Hopefully he can bounce back tomorrow. Also, Womack played very well today.

All in all it was a good day because it was opening day. It was great to see the Reds on the field and playing again. I cant wait till Wednseday. Hopefully the outcome will be a little bit better than today's.

Same shit, different year.

THe only way we score is by a homerun, we still can't pitch and can't play defense. I thought they were suppossed to be working on defense in the off-season. 2 errors and a couple misplayed fly balls.:!

3 innings in a row where we had baseloaded and the third we had a guy on 3rd with no outs. We score 2 freakin' runs.

It is going to be a long season.

We scored 7 fucking runs. It ain't the offense little Marty. :wink2:

Pitching still sucks, defense still sucks and now we have 2 has beens like Woe-mack and Hatteberg starting for us with Rich Aurillia waiting to get his AB's.

It is indeed going to be a long year.

Well I didnt say it was only the offense, but we didnt have the timely hitting when we needed it to get back in the game.

Also the Cubs walked 8 reds batters and we only scored 7 runs. Unfreakin' believable if you ask me.

When you have to say things like "get back in the game" and "only scored" after you put a 7 spot on someones opening day pitcher, you might have a problem other than your offense.

People just get frustrated with the offense because its our only hope to win and when they fail to outscore the other team it seems like a loss is the offenses fault. I can understand the feeling but when you think about it logically it makes zero sense. Add in Marty and George Grande's incessant whining on the topic and its even easier to fall into that trap while our pitching staff is once again going to be the worst in the league.

Whats unbelievable is when you consider Krivisky traded a talent like WMP for a journeyman like Arroyo so Dunn could play his "natural" position in LF and put Hatteberg at 1B. All the talk being how we just upgraded defensively.

Also, almost as overwhelmingly stunning is the fact Tony fucking Woe-mack not only made our team but shit for brains Narron starts him. Folks TW wouldn't even make 20-25 teams in MLB. The ones he did make would use him (correctly) as a bench guy. We start this useless prick and sit Ryan Freel.

Anyone who thinks I'm crazy with my outrage over Woe-mack and Hatteberg check out baseball Prospectus's take on the big Kriv:

New GM Wayne Krivsky came in and acted decisively, trading Sean Casey so he could clear his outfield logjam by moving Adam Dunn to first base. He liked decisiveness so much, he traded Wily Mo Pena to Boston so he could move Dunn back to the outfield and free up a spot for Scott Hatteberg, last seen decomposing in Oakland. Worse, in Bronson Arroyo he added another flyball pitcher to a staff that's going to lead the league in sore necks. Plus he's let Tony Womack linger around the roster within reach of Ryan Freel's starting job. That's not just decisive, that's decisively stupid.

I don't think we can ever be in as bad as shape as when Uncle Carl and Dan O were in charge but these two new guys haven't impressed me in the least.

Welcome to last year.

They finally have a decent lineup in there. Freel makes them look retarded by getting a lead off double and scoring in the 1st. The look on his face as he stood up on 2nd was awesome. "Way to not start me dipshits".

I love that they moved a SS to 1B . Most athletic position...SS, least athletic position....1B. Only in Cinci...
