Reds tidbits (2010 season)

Padilla scratched, Dodgers will go with Monasterios (long man) this evening instead. Manny is in San Bernardino on his rehab assignment, so the Reds miss him at least for tonight. Ramirez is supposed to be re-evaluated after today.

righty?

If we play well i can def see at least 4-2 in these 6 games

I'm just hoping two right-handers means we see Edmonds and/or Nix in LF instead of Gomes these first two nights.

Jonny's LF defense in these two ballparks is a recipe for disaster. He'd be turning singles into triples.

Jax, I've agreed with you for years that LF defense isn't that important.

The last 10 days of watching Jonny Gomes's "oley bullshit" and winging it in the general vicinity of the backstop instead of the cut-off man has made me have to seriously rethink my stance on this though.

LF defense was pretty damn important last night. The Reds would've lost if the D-backs had it.

That notwithstanding, you can get away with a guy like Gomes being out there if... A.) he's hitting and B.) you're playing in small park. Neither of those is the case right now so he should start on the bench and be used as a pinch hitter in these next two series.

... but Gomes IS hitting. He had a stretch of 15 PAs there where he crushed the ball and it travelled 400' every single time.

To 3B, SS, 2B, and 1B.

One thing I do like about Gomes though: With one out and a runner on first, you know he won't GIDP.

Possibly. If you go down that what-if road, if there isn't an error prolonging the inning, then Ondrusek is never pinch hit for and probably pitches the next inning, so we never see Bray and Jordan Smith. Don't remember exactly when Bray got up, but after Nix hits for Ondrusek, every situation afterwards could be managed differently.

So would Keels' determining the fairness/foulness of them.

I'll still take that over Tom Hamilton's calls on fly balls.

"It's a high DRIVE! Aaaa-waaaay back! But it's hauled in! By the shortstop."
