Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

Rolen still in that lineup? I would be surprised if he finishes this year. We need a 3b, LF and TOR pitching. I guess if you are thinking we get Jose Bautista for Votto that takes care of LF and puts Alonso at first but we still dont have a 3rd baseman. Also what pitching are we losing to get that deal done?

Sounds worse to me than what we have, except for Mesoraco playing. Does that trade also get Dusty Baker the hell out of here also?

Getting waxed by the shittiest teams in baseball this week. Fuck you Bob for not taking over this shitty situation and keeping Dusty Baker as the ringleader of all things fucked up.

Buckeyes start practice tomorrow.

Who are these Bob and Dusty characters of whom you speak?

Master plan is coming together and they are moving up in the standings. Now in third place. Dusty and Walt are geniuses. I can't believe I wanted them to trade Hernandez. Without his help, none of this would have been possible.

I haven't followed baseball for a few years but today I was looking at the stats. I see that Johnny Cueto has an era under two. I've never seen him pitch. What makes him so tough to hit? Looking at his numbers he doesn't have a high SO/IP ration, he has 37 walks in 118 IP, decent but not great control. Is he a sinkerballer? Does he have a great cutter or something? Curveball?

A lot of people have speculated that he's simply been lucky this year. He did change his delivery after coming back from injury - turning his back to the plate a la Luis Tiant. That has also coincided with inducing more ground balls.

Luck or skill, it's a shame his individual performance this season has been wasted the rest of those bums.

I thought that the Reds were supposed to be contenders this year but I just looked at the standing, they're under .500. What happened? It's looks like it's the Phillies and then everyone else in the NL this year.

The better question would be 'what hasn't happened'

It starts with teh DUHsty. Then the derp, thankfully they parted ways. The pitching, both starting (Volquez) and the bullpen (everyone). Then there's the incredibly dumbass lineups, but that goes back to teh DUHsty. That's all. /rant

He has a .227 BABIP and stranded 76.5% of runners on base.

Its mostly luck.

As far as Votto goes, people should get used to the thought of him being traded. Probably this winter. Then again with this sorry ass front office they'll likely let him go for nothing but the draft picks and use the money saved to extend Arroyo further.

My .02 is flip him this winter for a big time MLB proven LF bat or SP, move Alonzo to first and reboot. The window was open to win with Votto as a Red this year. They shat upon themselves. Window is now closed. Thanks for the effort Joey, now go get paid.

Bautista is the best fit. He can play LF and 3B. So if Rolen isn't done, he can play 3B for him 40+ games. His contract is reasonable and longer than Votto's contract.

I would prefer Votto over Bautista, but this team has to do what it can with the money it has. It would open a spot for Alonso, and it would also be for a longer term and cheaper.

The Reds would obviously have to sweeten the pot, but adding Heisey or Wood to the deal could get it done.

Agreed.

Bautista + Alonzo is greater aggregate offense than Votto + (insert any Reds LF/3B). I like Joey and I'm well aware of the Bautista risks but those wanting to keep Votto aren't accounting for the economic realities of the situation imo.

Continuing to hold on to Votto into next season also diminishes the trade value of Alonzo because its painfully obvious he can only play 1B. One of them has to go this off season and Votto seems the obvious choice.

All that said my money is actually still on the FO doing two things; Jack and fucking Squat. Votto will rot on the vine and leave town for a FA payday while Alonzo languishes on Dusty's bench with no position to play.
