His problem concerning NIL is that it takes away the advantage he had paying players behind the scenes.

You make 2 assumptions that may not ending up being true:
1) Clemson will actually win the ACC-Atlantic and be in the ACC CCG.
2) The team in the ACC-CCG from ACC-Coastal will actually be ranked.

“Should I have gone to the transfer portal and taken a veteran over (Will) Shipley and (Phil) Mafah because Shipley got hurt? I’m not. Maybe you would if you’re the head coach and you can do whatever you want, but I wouldn’t change anything. Again, I’m not opposed to the transfer portal. I’m not. I’m not some anti-transfer portal deal.
“If I was at another school or university, that might be all I sign is transfer portal guys. If I was at some school where you couldn’t recruit the really best of the best high school kids, I probably would sign only transfers and that’s what a lot of people I think are going to do. Which I think is sad. It’s going to cost a lot of high school opportunities that they would had at other places."
Swinney concluded his message by letting reporters know if the Tigers feel the need to take a transfer, they'll do it.
“I’ve said this 100 times … if we need to use the portal, we’ll use it,” Swinney said. “But I’m not going to do something just to do something. I don’t know why everybody keeps asking me that. The transfer portal has always been around, it’s just been grad guys. But there’s not been anybody from a grad transfer standpoint that could come here, that I felt like, and start. And so, we’d rather take the high school kid.

Wanna make $14 the hard way?
So........ other "good" coaches recognize weak spots on their roster and use the transfer portal to add skill and depth. Dabo refuses to shop the transfer portal and his team is now struggling as a result. When reporters ask him why he hasn't used that tactic, he throws a hissy fit and scolds the reporter for asking him a question that he has already answered (and not really answered, just said he wasn't going to do it).
Hmm.... stuff like that might make someone start to question Dabo's ability to recruit effectively, develop recruits once they arrive on campus, or recognize and address lack of quality depth. You know - stuff "good" coaches can do with relative ease. Either that, or he's just gotten lazy and is being out-worked.
