WATCH: Ryan Day, Tate Martell, Dwayne Haskins Break Down Win

Ohio State opened its 2018 Big Ten conference schedule with a blowout 52-3 win over Rutgers.

The Buckeyes rode an almost-perfect passing game from Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell to a 35-0 halftime lead before putting it in cruise control for the rest of the day.

OSU piled up 579 total yards, with an average of 7.9 yards per play, in an efficient and explosive performance.

The defense was equally solid, holding the Scarlet Knights to 2.2 yards per play, and forcing three-and-outs on five of Rutgers’ first six drives.

After the game, acting head coach Ryan Day and a group of players met with the media to discuss the win and look ahead to next week’s neutral site showdown against TCU.

You can watch their interviews below.

Also noticed that they gave our DL little chance to get stats...just threw the ball wildly assuming one of Bosa, Jones, Young, etc. were coming. Pretty amazing.
Yes. I mean on one play he grabbed it and lobbed it out of bounds? The defensive front changes the way teams operate and it's very evident.

Also I'd like to point out that they did a crazy good job defending the screens. Twice I saw our DL (Landers specifically) stop its rush and bail to a screen point. They learned their lessons from that first game.

Only issue at this point I believe is the penalties. Then again when you play fast and aggressive penalties happen.

The stuff with Chase Young still concerns me a bit. It just seems like there was a personal element to it from one of the members of the officiating crew.

Said crew was the typical B1G level of dog shit BTW

Yep, and that extends to the replay booth--the ball was clearly out when Young sacked the QB and yet, predictably, the replay official upheld the call that was clearly made in error in real-time. I've been saying it for years, but the Big Ten really should just get rid of replay review--they hire the absolute worst to serve in that role.

The Good

1. Dwayne Haskins: 20/23 for 233 yards and 4 TDs. Rutgers has a lousy defense, but those numbers are incredible
2. Tate Martell: Forget the passing stats. He had 8 carries for 95 yards with a 47-yard TD. If he's going to be a factor in big games, it will be with his legs, not his arm
3. Johnnie Dixon: After being a no show in week 1, the Buckeyes' big-play receiver came back with a vengeance: 4 receptions, 89 yards, with TDs of 38 and 44 yards
4. Nick Bosa: Simply devastating. 5 tackles, 3 TFLs, 1 sack, 1 QB knocked out of the game.
5. Shaun Wade: Definitely flashed, with a nice stick on 3rd down, an interception, and generally tight coverage
6. The defense: After a rough week 1, held Rutgers to 3 points, 134 yards, 4/15 on 3rd down, 11/30 passing (.367), forced two turnovers

The Meh

1. The running backs: Dobbins, Weber, Snead, and Teague combined for 29 carries for 141 yards (4.86 ypc) and a TD. Not going to cut it against better defenses
2. Kendall Sheffield: Had one pick (on a deflected pass), dropped another in the red zone. Bad hands are becoming a "thing" with Sheffield
3. Chase Young: Two sacks for 18 yards, two unsportsmanlike penalties for 30 yards. Gotta play smart, young man

The Bad

1. Penalties: 11 penalties for 120 yards, including two for unsportsmanlike conduct. Several negated big plays

Boggles the mind how that wasnt ruled a fumble on the field and then more so how it wasnt overturned....I'm still pissed. And on top of that all those holding calls on us (offense and defense) and not 1 holding call on Rutgers???
