S Ronald Tanner (Official Thread)

Given 2nd chance, Chapman, TC deliver

Caden Chapman couldn't convert his first chance to boot a game-winner.

But he was part of the Columbian defense that corralled elusive quarterback Ronald Tanner one more time, giving him and Tornadoes one more opportunity to win Saturday's Division III first-round playoff game against Columbus Eastmoor.

After a 25-yard field goal attempt that had plenty of leg but was wide right with 1:42 remaining, Chapman redeemed himself 10 times over by nailing a 37-yarder from between the hashes with 10 seconds left. Only Tanner's deep incompletion remained to complete Columbian's 17-14 win at Frost-Kalnow Stadium.

Continued...

Starting at its 48 actually marked Columbian's worst field position of the fourth quarter, as Tittle scrambled 15 yards to Eastmoor's 37 to end the third but then got picked by Tanner to start the fourth. Later TC drives that started from the Warrior 31 and 45 yard lines ended in a turnover on downs at the 15 and Chapman's miss. Tanner then got stopped for no gain on a scramble and fired incomplete twice.

Columbian held Eastmoor to just 64 yards in the second half (199 overall), largely stuffing the ground game and bringing a pass rush that kept Tanner, who's bound for Ohio State as a defensive back, hemmed in more and more throughout the night.

Tanner rushed for 57 yards, but he was just 6-of-18 passing for 79 yards.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Tanner leads Eastmoor to win in Kentucky

Written by Nancy Mason on 07 December 2010

Mickey Horton contributed to this story

Ron Tanner scored on an old-fashioned three-point play with five seconds left to cap a fourth quarter rally that led Columbus Eastmoor to a 64-63 win over Bryan Station High School of Lexington in the Big Red Shootout in Manchester, Kentucky.

Bryan Station outscored and outplayed the Warriors of the Columbus City League 20-4 in the third quarter to take at the time was a commanding 47-31 lead, but Tanner, who was an All-City league performer in football, took control of the game by scoring 14 of his 18 points in a 33-point fourth quarter by Eastmoor.

Nation's top safeties - Football's Second Season

5. Ron Tanner of Columbus, Ohio, is a 6-1, 190-pounder who is rated as the No. 80 player in the nation. Of all the recruiting analysts, I'm the only one who has him rated among the top 100. Why? He is a great open field tackler and has good ball instincts. He is committed to Ohio State. He has all the tools, size and speed.

Having Hasean Clinton-Dix at #4 makes me question this list...
