scum RB Fitzgerald Toussaint (official thread)

He had very good vision and had the arms, balance and quicks to be able to pick up yards in traffic. I disagree with RB in that he is only a role player at the next level.

I didn't say that...by utility player I mean he can play a little bit everywhere as a RB, slot, KR, and PR. I think he looks more around 170, maybe 175 to be generous and he has some weight to gain based on film(no real worries there though). I think Toussaint has gone way under the radar though. By the way, he runs a 10.59 100 meter dash according to his biography on ScoutingOhio. I wouldn't be surprised if he was in the 4.3 range and if he isn't, that's what his game speed is.

Can you imagine Saine, Thomas and Toussaint all on the field at the same time and then add the big WRs in Stoney and Posey?
And Pryor at QB...holy crap.

But seriously though this isn't just a straight line runner. He runs with that fluid Joe McKnight style in traffic but he has that burst like Ginn does. I think he fits at almost any back position in a spread and I think we would be nuts not to offer.

He's a guy who looks a lot like Reggie Bush on film (the uniforms at Liberty don't help), but he does need to get stronger, specifically in the legs to play in college. But that's what they said about Tony Pittman 5 years ago. Fitz is one of my favorite recruits thus far, I hope we offer him.

Every year, there are 2 or 3 videos from in-state guys that make you say "Wow!", and Fitz has one of those videos (if you haven't seen it, go to Fitz's first post and watch his ScoutingOhio tape). He's got an awfully flashy style of running, very remeniscent of Isaiah Pead, who had one of those "wow" videos last year. I am awed by the way he's able to make people miss, and even if they are able to get a hand on him, his ability to scamper out of the tackle is almost as remarkable. The biggest knock on him numbers wise would be his height (he's listed at 5'9"), which is a full 2 inches shorter than Pead's listed height. And even though RB is probably the one place where height really doesn't matter, I think the coaches still look at that and question whether he'll have what it takes to make it in the Big Ten.

I would love to see this guy at OSU's summer camp with the other guys "on the bubble" in-state because I want to see what those guys are made of, going up against the best OSU can draw to the camp. This is one guy I'm surprised we haven't heard about lately.

The major knock on our team in the last 2 championships games has been the complete inability to test teams deep. We did it better against LSU, but not good enough. Toussaint is the kind of player that absolutely freaks coaches out because he is going to beat you deep 1v1 and he is going to make you miss in the short field. And if you miss-watch out. We have been taking pure, strong wide recievers lately but I truly believe that Toussaint is the finishing piece to our offense. His film looks a LOT like Reggie Bush's did in high school (givens Bush was bigger and going against better competition)

I have to think he is getting an offer. I freakin would love to see him play live.

My take: Speed, speed, and more speed. In pads I think his game speed is comparable to Flash Thomas and he is likely the fastest guy in the state for the '09 class. Picks his feet up well in traffic, great lateral accelaration, and great burst into the hole. He sure can juke but the freeze step is probably going to have to go because the defenders are going to catch up on the next level. Competition is certainly questionable. He is an option at RB but I think he is more of a utility guy at the next level, at slot and as an APB ala Flash. It's early to tell but since we have a lot of room in the next class I would like to see us take Toussaint. He is a big play threat on offense and a heck of a return specialist. JT and Co. love speed and Toussaint's got it. He may have to earn his offer at camp but I see him getting one eventually.

After watching this film, thank you very much 45, he looks great, no doubt. I agree w/RB07OSU's assessments particularly. But one thing bothers me; If he's only 5-9, then his opponents sure do look small to me...and a bit slow.
No knock on D3 intended.

It will be interesting to see how his visit goes on the 24th...I really don't think he is going to be an early offer, but he is for sure one that I think will get a long hard look at camp and they will see if they think he can handle the punishment of the big ten...

I don't see any of the Reggie Bush comparisons(and why is it nowadays whenever a kid's a little shifty and can break some tackles, he's the next Reggie Bush). And doesn't tOSU covet having larger RBs that can take a beating in the Big10 over smaller RBs? I mean this kid looks pretty good, but it's a highlight tape, and this kid doesn't look like he'd be a beast like Beanie, Zoom and Boom. Just my opinion, and it's still very early in the recruiting process, he might get bigger, but that Bud Golden kid looks better.

No, he's not quite the physical specimen that those 3 guys are (and those guys are awfully special players), but Fitz has more ability than any of them to simply make the other guy miss, which is extremely valuable. However, that might not say too much, because all of them could be considered power backs. One thing's for sure: I'd hate to go 1 v 1 against him. He'd make darn near anyone look silly.

I'm not sure about the Reggie Bush comparisons either (then again, I never saw any tape of him in HS). I liken him more to a Darren Sproles type of back with maybe a little more juke in his hips. And for a back of Fitz's stature, the more ability to make the other guy miss, the better.

Also, keep in mind that we are more than likely taking more than one RB in this class, due to Devoe Torrence's voided offer. In other words, an offer to Golden won't mean no offer for Fitzgerald.
