Seahawks (ex-USC) Coach Pete Carroll (official thread)

Q: Is there a reason this is in the Rumor Mill, seeing as all the sources are publicly available articles from national publications?

I don't think BP scooped anything here, fellas. :wink2:

These threads aren't about who did the scooping, they're about being unconfirmed. Others reporting rumors doesn't make it true. Until Petey or Seattle announces it, it's a rumor. Even then, you have to wait for the Meyer rule.

Every little boy in SoCal grows up dreaming of getting to be a Trojan for his first real paying job. This is U$C folks. Their recruiting won't skip a beat as long as they have the red headed step child (basketball program) to dump on.

USC was losing the Vegas Bowl to Utah before anyone ever heard of freaking Utah prior to Petey setting up the machine.

They are not going to just throw the keys to the next guy and never skip a beat.

From that article is a link to the LA Daily News source, and on that LA Daily News article are comments ... and the comments are golden.

My favorite, posted by someone using the name "UsedTrojan." :slappy:

This stinks. I really wish I didn't spend the last 7 years of my life dressed in head to toe in USC gear talking to smack to everyone I work with, my family, and random people on the street. All the cheating and scandals that are coming out are making me look like a bandwagon tool that only supported the team because they were winning, and because inside, I am really a loser seeking any advantage to look cool. Now how the heck am I going to pretend i am better than everybody else? What the heck is this USC degree worth now? Oh great, I'm screwed..... Fight on, I guess?

Without a question one of the top five dominant coaches of the decade, along with Tress, Brown, Meyer, and Stoops. Lots of implications for the Pac10 and recruiting in general.

I'd add Saban (who has 2 Natinal Championships) to that list making it "the top 6 dominant coaches".

No they'll just throw the keys to their star running backs and roll on down the road.

I hope you're right. I just think Snoop and the posse will have something to say about it...

Coaching at a place like USC is as much about managing egos as it is managing talent. SC might find a Larry Coker or Les Miles to win one last title off PC's stockpile, but it'll likely fizzle out.

They could just be interviewing Rivera or Frazier to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Seattle still has to comply with the Rooney Rule, so even if Carroll is their choice (and I'm still not totally convinced he is), they have to interview a minority candidate. Ron Rivera also always seems to get an interview for jobs and never seems to get them either.
