Seahawks (ex-USC) Coach Pete Carroll (official thread)

I think ESPN's track record with this situations is pretty rough because they're so anxious and hard up to break the story that sometimes they'll leak something knowing it's not 100% true, to generate an even stronger rumor or influence, ride that wave, and then say later on..."hey we never said it to be 100% true". That's ESPN for ya.
Truth.

Vitale just had some less than flattering remarks about this situation during the UCONN vs. GTown. In a nut shell, Carroll is taking the money and leaving town before the NCAA sanctions come down.

Vitale is very, very pro-ND which automatically places him in an anti-USC group.

Is he? I think you're thinking of Digger Phelps...the highlighter/tie guy.
He is into ND and deeply so, pocket book, family and heart.

Dick Vitale - bio ESPN

Born June 9, 1939, in East Rutherford, N.J., Vitale and his wife, Lorraine, have two daughters, Terri and Sherri, who both attended Notre Dame on tennis scholarships and who both graduated with MBAs. The Vitales' proud involvement with Notre Dame includes the endowment of the Dick Vitale Family Scholarship, presented annually to an Irish undergraduate who participates in Notre Dame sports or activities and does not receive financial aid. Recipients have included the school's Leprechaun mascot, cheerleaders and band members.

Vitale was an infrequent "pump up the crowd" speaker at ND pep rallies - including those held under Weis' tenure as Football Head Coach.

Herbie's been taking it awfully hard from Carroll for quite a while.

That took entirely too long.

Put an easy Herbie/Pete gay joke up on the tee and it takes 12 hours for someone to step up to the plate and take a swing?

WTF is happening to the BP I used to know?

Interesting tweets from Adam Schefter:

Carroll is expected to be introduced as the Seahawks next head coach as early as Monday.

USC assistant coaches never bothered calling back the high school seniors at the All American Bowl calling them Friday for answers. Classy.

The coaches are already gone...will the recruits leave, too?

Re: Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier could agree to interview, but he is unwilling to do so if Carroll has been promised full control of the Seahawks -- and multiple sources say he has.

Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke told Frazier that Carroll definitely does not have Seattle's job. Believing Leiweke, Frazier will interview for the Seahawks head coach job Saturday morning.

That's this morning. If he wasn't flown out to Seattle last night, I wonder if it is a "phone interview".

I'm thinking these new owners in Seattle are about to get hit with a hefty fine for failing to seriously interview minority candidates. Seriously, how can you be successful enough to own a professional sports franchise and so botch your first move?

With news of Seattle's pursuit of Carroll, minority candidates such as Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier were said to be reluctant to interview for the job as they do not want to be used as simply a Rooney Rule candidate rather than a legitimate candidate.
