Serous question: How much time is the team putting in preparing for Texas?

Don't look past the next game. Miami is the only team we are focusing on right now.

Those are the right things to say, but come on. Ohio State SHOULD have Miami put away by the middle of the second quarter. This has not happened in the past, but going up and down the roster, this Ohio State team is LOADED with game breakers. If Miami keeps it close, then something is wrong.

How much time is the staff and the team putting in toward the Texas game on September 10? Urban legend has it that Woody put in a day or two a week for Michigan the entire season.
 
Miami's first 22 can play with about any team in the country. It's the second 22 where Ohio State (and others) have the advantage.


I have no idea if and how much OSU is preparing for Texas. In Woody's day, they prepared for Michigan because that was the only team that was good enough to beat them (generalizing, of course). If Ohio State was prepared to beat Michigan, so went the reasoning, they could easlily handle Minnesota etc..

Today, any team might beat you any given Saturday. If you spend too much time preparing for a team you're not going to play that week, I think you're asking for trouble. Right now, though, it's not "miami week" so I suspect they may be tossing in some things they'd expect Texas to do - but I'd also suspect at this point it's mostly fundementals and learning the playbook more than it's what are THEY gonna do.

Miami's not some crappy team that WILL fold by the 2nd quarter. And as for your claim that it hasn't happened in the past, we seemed to handle TxTech, WSU pretty well by the second half.

There's no way they're going to overlook the Miami game. Its their first freaking game in a billion months, and Zwick/Boeckman (as well as others that could see more PT than usual) may not get another shot like this during the 05 season.

I've read stories of Woody using entire weeks to prepare for a game other than that weeks' opponent.

I don't see the staff looking past Miami (OH)...I'm sure Beckman has a good amount of material on them already and much of the Spring and Summer has been used in preparation. Without getting into talent levels, tOSU will see much of the same schemes with UT and Miami (OH).

I would guess most of the time is still game planning and sharing all of the information learned during the off season with the scout team. It is still three weeks until Miami.

The best thing to prepare for Texas might be a dominating win over Miami. This would build some confidence and allow the team not to have to spend any time guessing about what went "wrong" in a tight win over Miami.

The three great lies -

1. The check is in the mail.

2. I promise not to, er, uh, in your - well, you know that one.

3. We are taking it one game at a time.

OSU will spend some time the last week of practice getting ready for specific things that Miami does, but if I had to take a guess that preparation will be in the context of things that translate to other games as well. No way do they devise specific strategems - especially O strategems - that apply only to the Miami game. They have been preparing for Texas since last January.

Uh, steering this post back to football :wink2: , Tress has shown that when he has time to prepare for a big game the Bucks are more than ready to play lights out. Being the fact that Miami is the season opener the guys will be more than ready to play the game and there will be no looking past anybody. I am ready for some football!!

We've won all of our openers under tressel, and handled some decent opponents like Texas Tech, Washington and Cinci. I don't see where the evidence is for being concerned about this game. Miami is a good team, and so that could be a reason for concern, but we've always prepared well for these games.

There is more evidence of struggling after bye weeks (like PSU) or with trap games like this year's SDSU matchup.
