Ohio State's Foster joins Cavaliers summer league team

7/5/2006, 6:25 p.m. ET
The Associated Press CLEVELAND (AP) — Ohio State's Je'Kel Foster is among 14 free agents, draft picks and veterans who will play on the Cleveland Cavaliers' summer league team in Las Vegas.
Foster, the Buckeyes' top outside shooter last season, joins a team that includes Cavaliers guard Sasha Pavlovic, center Martynas Andriuskevicius and guard Stephen Graham. The team will play five games from Friday through July 14.
Recent draft picks Shannon Brown, Daniel Gibson and Ejike Ugboaja are on the team, along with former Ohio University forward Brandon Hunter.
Hunter averaged 3.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in two seasons with Boston and Orlando. He was signed by Milwaukee last year but was waived before the season started.
Rounding out the roster are Jermaine Blackburn of Boise State, C.J. Bruton of Australia, Sharrod Ford of Clemson, Brian Jackson of Oregon State, Roderick Riley of Prairie View A&M and Clay Tucker of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Cavaliers assistant coach Michael Malone is the head coach.

Just recognized a familiar name and face on the front page article of the Fiba Europe website:

Foster Beats Virtus With Buzzer-Beater
// 03 February 2009

EWE Baskets Oldenburg claimed the biggest win of their EuroChallenge campaign by surprising Virtus BolognaFiere 82-81 in Italy and it couldn't have happened in more dramatic fashion.

Je'Kel Foster buried a three-pointer at the final buzzer to shock Virtus, one of the top sides in the competition.

Foster finished with 18 points while Jasmin Perkovic had 19 to lead the Germans.

Ruben Boumtje Boumtje also left his calling card in Bologna. The Cameroon international made all six of his shots from the floor and sank his only free throw for 13 points.

Boumtje Boumtje also had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Missed free throws, especially at the end of the game, cost Virtus dear.
Reyshawn Terry went to the line with 1:26 to go and made just one of two for an 80-79 lead.

Neither side scored again until 10 seconds remained after Boumtje Boumtje fouled Earl Boykins.

The Virtus playmaker went to the line and missed the first but made the second.

There was still time for EWE Baskets.

Jason Gardner attempted to beat Virtus with a three but missed with three seconds to go.

Foster got the rebound, though, and drilled the game-winner from behind the arc before time expired.

Je'kel Foster's team Oldenburg, just won their very first Championship in Germany's top pro league the BBL. Congrats Je'kel! :) They beat Ken Johnson's team Bonn.

: Basket-Spot :: Oldenburg champions for the first time (Not?*cia: Oldenburg campeão pela primeira vez)

6/25/2009

For the first time in their history, Oldenburg claimed the BBL's trophy. The yellow team beat Bonn 71-70 in the fifth game of the German playoff finals in what was a very close and exciting game until the final seconds. The MVP Rickey Paulding led the champions scoring 20 points and grabbing 5 rebounds, while teammates Je'Kel Foster (8 rebounds) and Jason Gardner added 18 and 14 points, respectively. For Bonn the best player was Earl Rowland with 22 points, followed by Patrick Flomo with a double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds) and Brandon Bowman with 14 and 8.

Thrilling win for Oldenburg against Bonn

...Down by 3 points with 43 seconds remaining the hosts relied on Jason Gardner (178-G-80, agency: Interperformances, college: Arizona) and did not let his team down. Gardner converted a three-point play to draw things level in the game. Johannes Strasser lost the ball and Je'Kel Foster (191-G-83, agency: Court Side, college: Ohio St.) punished the visitors hitting one free throw and pulling Oldenburg in front with 4 seconds to go...

Continued..
Matt Terwilliger plays in the BBL as well. He plays for a team called Paderborn Baskets, Twigs' best game in his rookie pro season (08/09) was a 13 point outing.

HAPPY! HAPPY!

Today?s Buckeye birthday belongs to former basketball co-captain Je?Kel Foster, who turns 26.
Born July 22, 1983, in Natchez, Miss., Foster was star for his hometown high school team before playing one year at Howard Junior College in Big Spring, Texas, and one year at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla. At Chipola in 2004, Foster was the Florida JUCO player of the year after averaging 17 points, 5.5 assists and 5.1 rebounds. He played for the Buckeyes in 2005 and ?06, serving as team co-captain for the 2006 squad that won the school?s first outright Big Ten championship in 14 years. Foster finished his two-year career as a Buckeye with averages of 10.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Foster is currently in his fourth season playing pro basketball in Europe and beginning his second year with a team in Oldenburg, Germany. Last season, he averaged 12.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in the German league and sank the game-winning free throw to lift Oldenburg to its first championship ever.

Happy B-day :)

Someone tagged this thread with 'heart of a champion' a few years ago. They could not have been anymore on point with that.

German League Highlights :) (Je'kel hit the game winning free throw and got the title clinching steal to boot)

EWE Baskets Season Preview

Excellent writeup (season preview) on German BBL Champions, EWE Baskets Oldenburg.

Teamcheck: EWE Baskets Oldenburg ? German Hoops

When people talk about Oldenburg everyone mentions Gardner and Paulding at first ? and so did I. But one should really not forget about Je?Kel Foster who is something like an unsung hero for this team. The 191cm combo guard can do it all: play tough defense, create his own shot on offense and his nice ball handling skills allow him to bring the ball and play as a point guard. In 2006 Foster started his overseas career in Ludwigsburg and was named the Newcomer of the Year. After one season in France with Paris, he returned to Germany and was a great signing for Oldenburg. His stats say a lot about his versatility: 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

Whoever doubted Foster?s quality knows better now. Because it was him who made the decisive free throw and got the steal in the last seconds of game 5 of the BBL Finals last season. If Foster increases his shot selection and learns that he should not force shots he will even become more valuable for his team.

October was a challenging month for Je'Kel Foster and EWE Baskets Oldenburg. They opened German League play with a 67-55 win over Brose Baskets (Foster & Paulding struggled). They would come out of the month at 4-1 ..winning comfortably twice. On October 18th they were stunned at Alba Berlin 69-67 (Foster came alive with 16 points).

Three days later (Oct. 21) their Euroleague schedule started with a road game vs the Polish League Champions Asseco Prokom. Oldenburg regrouped in a big way with a 87-81 upset over Prokom. Je'kel scored 20 points, grabbed 6 boards , and had 6 assists in his first euroleague game (Paulding 23 points). The concurrent Euroleague schedule presents a mental & physical test for a new league champion. Each week Oldenburg is getting the best shots from the German league teams, in addition to having to play a Euroleague game against the best squads in Europe. EWE (pronounced eee-way) held up well after the loss to Alba Berlin until the 2nd Euroleague game on Oct. 25th. vs Milano out of the Italian League. Milano's 14 offensive rebounds helped put away Oldenburg by a score of 79-70, but once again Foster proved that he could ball at this level with another 20 point outing.

Oldenburg has been without starting point guard Jason Gardner for all but one game. A considerable amount of Foster's minutes have been at the lead guard spot. They do not have much ball-handling depth after Je'Kel. The defending champs may be feeling the effects of injury & schedule attrition. On November 1st they lost again in the German BBL, this time to Ludwigsburg 72-63

Another great effort from Je'kel in the Euroleague this week (Wednesday 11/4). He led Oldenburg with 17 points & 6 assists in a heart breaking loss at BC Khimki (Russian squad). At one point they were down 24-9 before Foster & forward Scekic lead a furious comeback, the guy plays his heart out every game. He didn't have much help in this one as Ricky Paulding got taken out of the game by some atrocious foul calls. Moreover, Oldenburg doesn't have enough front line depth to stay with some of these upper echelon European teams. The next two games will be the ultimate test as they have Spanish power Real Madrid next week. Then they play the best team in Europe, defending Euroleague champions Panathinaikos of Greece.

BC Khimki 77 EWE Baskets Oldenburg 72

BC Khimki fended off a tough challenge from EWE Baskets Oldenburg for a 77-72 home win to remain perfect at home in Group D. Paulius Jankunas matched his career high with 23 points and the hosts won a free-throw shooting contest in the closing minute to improve to 2-1. Next Khimki heads to Italy to face Armani Jeans Milano. Meanwhile Oldenburg lost its second straight game after leading in the fourth quarter to fall to 1-2 and it won?t get much easier with Real Madrid coming to town next week.

It was all Khimki early as it opened the game on a 15-3 tear and led by as much as 17 before Marko Scekic led the visitors on a 0-14 charge to get back and take a 36-42 lead at halftime. Khimki battled back and seemed on the verge of pulling away when it took a 55-49 lead late in the third only for Je?Kel Foster to scored the game?s next 10 points before Josh Carter made it 55-62. But mounting foul trouble saw Oldenburg lose two players and Keith Langford and Paulius Jankunas led the hosts back again. This time tough defense and great free throw shooting made the difference and sent Khimki to the win. Vitaly Fridzon and Robertas Javtokas added 12 points apiece and Kelly McCarty scored 11 for the winners. Foster paced Oldenburg with 17 points and 6 assists, Milan Majstorovic scored 14, Carter 13 and Scekic had 10 in defeat.

Game Watch Alert: EWE Baskets vs Real Madrid

Like Ron Lewis, Je'Kel Foster also has a blog with updates.

One of his latest entries..

Born In It: Je'Kel Foster Basketball

On November 8, 2009 we played a team from Braunschweig, Germany. We beat them with a score of 80-74. I had 20 points, but to make things even better they were undefeated in the German League. The Phantoms were a great team so we're glad we got the win. This was an exciting win for us.

Tomorrow we play Real Madrid. This team is usually pretty dominant in the Euroleague. Since there are certain requirements for Euroleague games we'll play in a different gym.

Foster is about to play in one of his biggest games of his pro career as EWE hosts Spanish power Real Madrid. It might be ugly, but a close game would be fun The game just started. some links

edit: 15-5 already for Real Madrid, Foster with all of EWE's points so far :(
