SG Kameron Williams (Sayago - Uruguay)

As his modest rebound and assist averages last season suggest, Kam wasn't signed by OSU for his all-around game necessarily. He's been added because he can really shoot the basketball and is very effective and efficient playing off the ball. Seems to me that he will be groomed to fill the role Jon Diebler played - he will help spread the floor and run off a bunch of screens for 3s. I suspect that Kam will probably not be much of a stat-sheet stuffer, again comparable to Diebler in that regard, as point production and in particular 3-point shooting is mostly what he will bring IMO.

I just reviewed some of the stats from the EYBL last year, and I think people may be sleeping on Kam a little too much. He outscored literally all of the top players in the country in the 2013 and '14 classes over a 20-game AAU season last year. He was a high volume shooter, but still made over 50% of his shots from the field, 48% of his 3s and 85% of his FTs. What he did last year is no small feat. With DT out the door, there are a lot of shots opening up and while Kam doesn't play the same position he is one of the few guys on the team with the propensity to take and make a lot of shots regularly. They can dust off the plays they ran to get Buford and Diebler open for shots. It makes a lot of sense to put Kam in a role where he will get a fairly sizeable amount of shots on this team next year, he and Ross are the two guys that I think they may need to build the offense around.

The main area of concern I have is how he is going to perform defensively. But the tourney this past season underscored the importance of having guys who put the ball in the basket at a high clip, as often come tournament time the refs will call a bunch of tick tack fouls that help the offensive-minded players and make it hard for teams to continue to play tough D over the course of the game due to foul trouble. So I'd like to see Kam be put in a position where he can get his share of shots, as they will need his offense in order to reach their potential as a team. Could be the microwave off the bench kind of like Ross last year only at a different position.

According to reports on Twitter, Williams scored 25 points to lead the US All-Stars over the Capital All-Stars in DC today, 126-120. Kam got MVP honors for his team, which apparently only had 7 players actually show up for the game as some of the guys who were supposed to be there weren't.

You know a big part of where he's rated is based on being 6'3" and 175#. You just don't see many guys with that body type making it in the NBA. Juan Dixon is of similar build to Kam, and is who Coach Dickerson compared Kam to. Dixon did redshirt his first year at Maryland (didn't begin practice until December of his redshirt year) and averaged about 7 ppg his frosh year, then 18 as a soph and junior and 20 as a senior. Kam might follow a similar path, a modest scoring total his frosh year as he gets his feet wet, then starts scoring double figures once he's a key cog in the offense. 7 ppg might be an optimistic expectation for him as a frosh, but that's about what I'm hoping for.

good post. kam presents the widest range of scoring skills since... maybe deshaun thomas? like thomas, williams doesn't have a true position. thomas was not a true 4... and sure as heck, he was not a true 5. williams is not a true 2... and sure as heck, he is not a true 1. to be sure, however, each knows how to put the ball in the basket in a number of ways.

kam williams is a pure scorer. that's all he knows. there is a spot for that kind of player next year.

Williams scored 21 points in a 123-121 loss in the inaugural West Coast All-Star Classic yesterday. While his teammate Eric Mika (BYU) scored 28 and earned MVP honors, Kam had the second-most points in the game.

I do not want to get into a peepee contest with you but I think you are expecting way too much out of Williams in his freshman year of college basketball. I know that he is an excellent shooter and a pretty good athlete but please remember that there is a big difference between high school basketball and playing in the B1G. I would not be surprised to see AV get more playing time than Williams but I know that you will strongly disagree with that statement.
