"He'll go down as one of the best bigs ever. But, he should have gone down as the greatest of all time, and probably would have had he been more committed and didn't let outside interest get in the way of his primary business. I'll never forget the guy's crazy size and athleticism, I just hate that he didn't maximize it."

More of a reason why Jim Rome is a clueless douche bag, trying to be the first bad boy of sports journalism. Although, being a bad boy in sports journalism is like saying you're winning in the Special Olympics, at the end of the day... I think you get the idea.

4 rings, 3x Finals MVP, 1 MVP award, & 15x All-Star

These stats don't lie.

I don't think it's too unfair. The guy ballooned in weight once he got to LA. In Orlando he was in great shape and very mobile for a big. In fact, it took years for Dwight Howard to turn into the specimen Shaq physically was.

If Shaq had stayed hungry, in a non-food way, I think his 4 rings could have been several more.

Bingo.

I am a Shaq fan. Only tarnished by what could've been. I hope he enjoys retired life.

I don't know. How many 7'+ guys make it 19 years? I'd say his career was plenty productive, sure he may have been capable of more than the 4 championships he was a part of.

He started winning in LA, but he was also 75% of the player. The guy who started in Orlando was a terror around the hoop. If he caught the ball anywhere within 6-7 feet of the rim it was a dunk and a ferocious one at that. Within a few years of being in LA, he was bloated, lost a lot of his foot-speed, and solely relied on his size.

It is impressive he lasted 19 years, that's for sure. He was definitely a physical freak. I tend to agree with Rome though, he left a lot of peak years by the wayside by relying solely on his size and what had got him there. If he had stayed in shape for 4-5 years longer than he did, he probably has 2-3 more rings.

He was never going to be Wilt or Russell...and I'd still put Jabbar ahead of him as well. Beyond that, his resume stacks up with anyone, so I don't really think anything else he would have done would alter that much one way or another.

One of my favorite players to watch growing up. Funny guy, who was dominating on the court in his prime. I don't blame him for trying to continue his career. I'm honored to admit he played a season with the Cavs, although he was passed his prime by then.

Does anyone else feel that the Center position is a dying art in the NBA much like the FB is a dying position in football?

I think it has been shown that you can play in the NBA with 2 PF's and no center, but any time a true center comes along he will be able to dominate. It seems like the biggest players on most teams are 6'10" 240 so when you get a 7'2" 300 lber that can bash in the post there will be room to dominate.

Shaq is the absolute best representative of LSU we could possibly ask for.

Larger than life personality, always kept his nose clean, loves LSU and is always willing to make an appearance or two in support of the University.

He also quietly donates millions of dollars and request that a big deal isn't publicly made of his contributions.

Loved watching the big guy play.

Report: Alleged Shaq sex tape leads to kidnapping

Two weeks ago, future Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal retired from the NBA after 19 seasons. What came next was a big question. Well, in the immediate future, it looks like he has to deal with some weird stuff.

According to TMZ.com, Shaq is in the middle of a robbery, sex tape and kidnapping situation.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Ladell Rowles -- a member of the Main Street Mafia Crip Gang in L.A. who is friends with Shaq -- along with 6 other members went on a search and destroy mission in L.A. on February 11, 2008. They believed a man named Robert Ross had the sex tape and they tried getting it back with the help of a gun or two.

According to the police report, the seven gang members met up with Ross at a convenience store -- Pink Dot -- on the Sunset Strip. The men allegedly surrounded Ross' Rolls Royce Phantom with guns drawn, jumped into Ross' car and ordered him to drive to Rowles' house in South Central L.A.

Once there, Rowles allegedly pistol whipped Ross and demanded that he turn over the sex tape. Ross said he would get the tape and bring it back to them. The seven men then allegedly took Ross' Rolex, diamond chain and earrings, along with $15,000 in cash -- then let Ross go.

The seven men have been arrested and charged with robbery, kidnapping and other crimes. They are currently in the middle of a preliminary hearing and being held in jail.

We've learned LAPD detectives interviewed Shaq to determine what, if any, involvement he had in the alleged crimes. When the case file went to the D.A. Shaq was not listed as a suspect.
As for the supposed sex tape, Ross claims Shaq brought women to Ross' home and had sex with them while he was married to ex-wife Shaunie. Reportedly, Ross told Shaq that a security camera had caught the action. However, Ross told police that the security footage automatically recycled and no longer exists.
