Was he really hired for "continuity" or do they know bad things are coming and just promoted someone that might stick around despite it? Not that they were going to find anyone spectacular from elsewhere.

Continuity only works if you keep everything else in place as well, which they've completely failed at.

Uhhhh....he accomplished a bunch of fuck all, the first team to run away from a game in modern cfb, and a massive cheating scandal. The title can and should be taken away (it probably won't). What did he actually accomplish?

I think they realize that things are about to go down the tubes rapidly and Moore was at least a link to their recent (ill-gotten) success. I think they are just smart enough to realize they weren't going to find a HC worth a damn on the open market with 2 major NCAA investigations hanging over their head. Moore was a safe, comfortable hire that they're hoping can somehow shepherd them through the rough times ahead, and if not, he will at least get them through the sanctions as a fall guy.

They are slowly, very slowly, starting to recognize that there is no Harbaugh NFL to scUM pipeline like they thought there was going to be. Harbaugh only does what benefits him, he will take but he sure as hell is not giving back to scUM.
