Signing Day '08 Discussion

OK...shouldn't have got my hopes up and this is the downside of being an optimist against good info. If you got your hopes up, your likely to be somewhat disappointed. If you didn't, then your not. However, this was a great day because we signed 19 excellent recruits that are going to be exciting to watch develop for the next 3-5 years.

Other commits...Bama had a huge day and as usual, USC closes fairly well. Julio Jones is huge for Bama and it would be tough not to see Alabama being a serious national competitor in the next few years. On a side note, I absolutely applaud Julio's approach to the process and not turning it into a contradiction circus...very mature young man. Scott should make an instant impact for Colorado and what a get for Hawkins. Shaw switching surprised me a bit and it's too bad we couldn't offer Omameh sooner but that opens up a spot for another talented '09 spot and we already have one heck of a class coming in. Let's be honest, we counted on 4 but fortunately the '09 OL class looks strong as well.

ESPN has Miami #1 and OSU #6, LSU #11

Rivals has Bama #1, Miami #6 and OSU#8, LSU #11

Scout also has Bama#1 and OSU #6, LSU#5

Bama has the potential to be scary good in the near future. Hopefully, Auburn has a drop off to coincide with Bama going up. Things in the SEC West will get really tough if their both strong at the same time. Also, hopefully Saban continues his habit of losing at least one game a year to someone he has no business losing to.

Pryor's family wants him to visit PSU, so he will do so before deciding. Not much concern there.
I'm not concerned as I am curious - since TP visited there most out of all of the schools. Plus, he could have done this months ago, it's not like Oregon where it's half the country away....

What did happen was that some guys who RR was recruiting to WVU but committed elsewhere - they are now U-M commits. Barnum, Roundtree, Taylor Hill, maybe Shaw, maybe Britt, maybe Pryor.
Hmmm, these must have been the first people he notified of his departure from WVU then :)

I am as addicted as anyone else to all things OSU football, BUT.

Here we are planning our hopes and dreams on the decisions of 18-19 year old kids. It is even worse at the high school level where I coached. Our professional lives rest on the efforts of 15-18 year old kids. Think about the sanity of all of this for a moment.:osu:

The only 18 year old that I'm pinning my hopes and dreams on is that mail order bride that I just ordered from Thailand. She'll be signing her letter of intent soon.

Bama has a nice class but it's ranking is heavily influenced by the # of prospects they're taking, just like the rest of the SEC. A number of them won't qualify.

Recruit class rankings are about as liquid as ranking the individual players in them. Some 5 star recruits will end up being mediocre and some 3 star recruits will be All Americans.

True, but Bama has been competitive (not winning a bunch, but in every game) while bringing in top 15 classes every year. Saban is a better coach than Shula (IMO), and is bringing in top 5 talent now. Logic seems to say that they will only get better.

For Saban's sake, they'd better get better......

and FAST. I'm actually shocked how many Bama fans are acting like finishing with the same record that got Shula fired was expected. But being around them for the last 20-25 years, tells me the honeymoon won't last long if they don't start beating Auburn and LSU. I think they'r probably getting sick of losing to Miss. State the last few years as well.
