Source: Knight Would Listen to Ohio State Offer

I agree with 3yards that there could be an initial "media circus" around campus, but I think it'll quickly subside as it did at Texas Tech. It seemed like you didn't hear squat about Knight after his first six months there, even with his excellent success there.

Is it just me or does anyone else think there is something wrong with letting an official from another B10 school head the investigative branch of the NCAA for alleged violations?

Maybe I'm off base here but I would think that the group who make up a committee like this should not have any affiliation with any of the member schools to avoid any possibility of playing favorites.

This seems to be even more complex considering the fact the Myles Brand is the man who fired Bobby Knight who may or may not be considered for the Ohio State coaching position.

Maybe I'm missing something but this just struck me as unusual.

To me Bobby Knight is the greatest Xs and Os coach ever. His in-game adjustments are also unparalleled. He's not the statesman that Smith was, or larger than life like Wooden, or everybody's media bitch, er darling, like coach K, but I think his actual coaching is the best, and I think his record at Tech proves that, considering what they were before he got there. I think he wants to go out on a winning (and generally positive) note, so I would welcome him back in a heartbeat.

Another Knight-basher comes out...

http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/7423411

What this dipwad fails to mention is that these "Great" recruits often only stay in school a year (a la Carmello), two at most, before moving on to the NBA. Even Saint K has started losing players early (and several of them). I know Boeheim finally got his beloved title with Melo, but the trick to college coaching longevity these days is being able to bring in a few good players that will stick around, give you some leadership, and will maybe be really good by the time they're seniors, which is what Knight does, and I think what Ohio State would prefer. Because for every Boeheim/Melo result, there are 2 or 3 Cremins/Marbury. JMO

What kind of bullshit is this?:
" The football program was humiliated by Maurice Clarett, but the basketball program was only embarrassed by Jim O'Brien."

Do these little shits realize that Maurice Clarett's actions reflect only on himself? Why don't we hear about how Chucky Woodson humiliated scum's football program? Oh, that's right, the little nitwits didn't turn all of the stuff he got into a national story.

Also the guy acts as if recruiting at Texas Tech is the same thing as recruiting at OSU. OSU has basketball tradition TT can only dream of. OSU has facilities TT can only dream of. OSU plays second fiddle to no one in Ohio; TT--does anybody outside of Lubbock care? What a moron.

Nixon, I know you and I had our differences over MoC, but you gotta let the media talking heads go. There's blood in the water at OSU these days - some justified, some not - and as disappointed as I was in Clarett even I don't think he deserves the kind of bashing you noted, above. Especially now, but they can't let it go.

This just in - ESPN just reported Bobby Knight would TAKE THE OSU JOB if offered to him, despite recently getting an extension at TT.

OSU hoops NEEDS a "media circus" right now. It also needs a no-nonsense alumnus with a winning pedigree to infuse life into the program. C'mon, Geiger, go get the man. He should've been a Buckeye coach years ago, but it looks like better late than never is okay with him, so it's okay with me.

If Knight is hired, better grab hoops tickets early. We'll get more coverage and more butts in the seats than the 'Shot has seen since it's first year.

We need The General right now...

I see where you're coming from, but I think there's a subtle difference here that's important. Some people care about what the media says in relation to how it reflects on the program or on Jim Tressel or on Andy Geiger or on the university. I don't.

All I'm saying is that when these guys print BS, I'm gonna call them on it. It doesn't affect MY perception on OSU any when they say that MoC "humiliated the football program", but I think it's a crock and I'm going to say so.

I don't know if I explained that well.

Anyway,

I could not agree more.

Dear Ohio State:

As an incoming graduate student this fall, I would greatly appreciate it if you would do me the honor of giving me a welcoming gift. I can think of nothing more fitting than to hire Bobby Knight and to make Ohio State basketball into something more than a laughing stock.

Tommy Amaker has turned Michigan around and made them into one of the top teams in the Big Ten. I think it would be appropriate if we were to hire Knight and make UM-OSU *THE* rivalry in the Big Ten in both football AND basketball.

Thanks,

Ex-Wolverine

I think the benifit bobby knight would bring to the program by coaching it would far outweight the controversy, if any, that might occur...and for that reason we need to hire that man

Ashland buck does bring out a good point here in regards to the incident of grabbing the kid around the neck and it was witnessed by thousands on ESPN. To me that was a mistake and a misfortune to have that displayed but i always have asked myself the question of "was that provoked"? That incident has happened 100 times over in every other state in the union. The only difference was that it was not on tape to be revealed to the public. Maybe again then I am just as crazy as BK is,if I am turning my head to the whole Issue here.

I hope that people in sports and especially the basketball world can see the difference here in what is happening in the game. I coached the game for 10 years before giving it up. You would need 20 pages for the reasons i gave it up. Beyond that I just want to say, Bobby Knight is still one hell of a good coach in the game today. He knows the defense and what to look for and plus he is a genious in getting to get the players moving without the ball. Believe me, no dribbler can move faster than the pass. He knows this and this is what he wants to teach. But in todays world this is such a great challenge in trying to bring this concept to your young people today who THINK THEY KNOW THE GAME.
