Star Wars (May the Force be with you)

I have read that this movie will be very dark and unlike any of the other movies in that this is a war movie. I know the crew went back to episode 4 to recreate vader's outfit for authentic purposes. Something Lucas himself fucked up in episode 3.

Because it isn't a story about a bunch of random unrelated people, the overarching story is about the Skywalker legacy/family line taking place in a grand universe amidst constant war. Thus, the major characters are Skywalkers and related to each other. Han was the main unrelated character in the original trilogy, Obi-Wan in the prequels, and now Finn fills that role in this trilogy.
I get that, but I think it is a bit silly that the fate of the entire galaxy revolves around one family- the original trilogy was about characters fitting into a larger story in a more realistic way- the prequels basically turned Vader into space Jesus which is where things went a bit wonky, IMO.

I also think it limits the stories they are able to tell if they feel the need to connect everything back to one family.

I'd love to see independent stories within the Star Wars universe that don't require the writers to make crazy connections to other characters.

I get the reason, though. People like what they know.

A totally original and awesome sci fi/fantasy/comedy will make less money than a slapped together piece of shit Gostbusters (or any other established franchise) remake because yay! I recognize that branding!

Star Wars without the iconic characters is probably scary as hell for studio executives.

Well, I mean, the first 6 were the story of Anakin really...

Having said that, I hope the statement from Disney is true that they're not trying to move Characters in and out of these films and into the main films. Mon Mothma makes sense, and even Vader, since you know, someone has to be victim of the heist.

Personally, I hope their is a bit part for Boba Fett in this movie; although, I don't know if that works for the overall story since he is with Jabba on Tatooine at the beginning of A New Hope.

And it's not that I'm a Fett fan-boy, I just want a scene that shows why Vader tells Fett in Empire, "no disintegrations".

Give credit to Disney for testing the waters with this film rather than the 'young Han Solo' one that is already in the works or the 'Ben Kenobi between the trilogies' movie that is being discussed, and which Ewan McGregor has made clear he would like to do.

The prequels were Anakin, the original trilogy was Luke... I guess it would make sense for the new movies to be about Luke's daughter.

I'm just saying, for me personally, I don't require a family connection within the larger story to hold my interest.

A compelling, well-written character is interesting regardless of the family connection.

Is everything canon after Jedi what they said did not exist anymore? If so, there were a few good Kenobi books written about his time in isolation on Tattooine. Many adventures trying to find other surviving Jedi and such. Would make for some good standalone films, I'm sure.

The canon is the 7 films and clone wars. The end.

My guess is Rey is Luke's daughter. 1. She is drawn to Luke's lightsaber. 2. She teaches herself the force in 10 minutes then proceeds to kick Kylo-Ren's ass, so she's gotta be a Skywalker. 3. Leia walks right by Chewie at the end of Force Awakens to give Rey a big hug like she knows her.
#3 was addressed by Abrams as an oversight and a product of scenes being cut. How much of that is believable.....who knows.
