Steroid/HGH Speculation

Mr_Burns

Hall of Fame
The recent events got me thinking about who is still under the radar that I would or would not be surprised to hear tested positive. For example, the trendy thing for people to say over the last couple years was that they couldn't wait for A-Rod to break Bonds' record, because it would be held by someone who had been clean the whole time. Whoops.

So my question is, who are some "under the radar" players who you wouldn't be at all surprised to see linked to a failed drug test?

With more names certain to be released in the coming months or years, it might be fun to have something to look back to after the fact.

Off the top of my head, I wouldn't be surprised to hear these guys tested positive at one time or another:
Randy Johnson
Manny Ramirez
John Smoltz (I really hope not, but he seems to be ageless, and has overcome plenty of serious injuries. Screams "Andy Pettitte" to me)
Mariano Rivera
Jim Thome
Frank Thomas

Stars I would bet money never used anything:
Ken Griffey Jr.
Greg Maddux
It's sad I can't rattle off a bunch more people here.
Umm.... Fernando Valenzuela

Who comes to mind for you?

Guys that it wouldn't shock me at all if they used at some point:

Josh Hamilton
Brandon Phillips
Matt Williams
Brady Anderson (ok I am 100% certain he used, but no one really cares anymore  )
Albert Belle
Carlos Beltran
Jeff Bagwell

Players that I do not think ever used:

Mike Mussina
Mark Grace
Craig Biggio
Fred McGriff

Those are a few I can come up with off of the top of my head....

Turns Out Craig Counsell Was Actually Best Baseball Player Of Steroid Era

NEW YORK?After the records of players who used performance-enhancing drugs are carefully removed, statistics provided by the Elias Sports Bureau indicate that lifetime .255 hitter Craig Counsell was the best player of the past 15 years. "If you judge them on the basis of pure physical ability, you're left with Craig Counsell," said ESB representative Patrick Wondolowski, adding that Counsell's 35 career home runs narrowly beat out Quinton McCracken's 21 and pitcher Glendon Rusch's three. Upon hearing the news, broadcaster Bob Uecker lauded the Brewers utilityman as "one of the best I ever saw, if we're talking about those who I can say without a doubt never took steroids. He came this close to stealing a base off of Ivan Rodriguez, and I swear I heard him foul tip a Roger Clemens fastball. The kid could flat-out steroid-free play. One time he was playing third base and he caught a Rafael Palmeiro line drive?just caught it, right in his mitt." When asked about his Hall of Fame chances, Counsell dodged the question by asking if anyone had a few bucks so he could go buy a sandwich.

I would strongly disagree regarding Manny. He is just a natural born hitter and when you look at him he does not have the body type from a guy that would have been using roids. I don't think Randy Johnson has that type of body either when looking at him but I feel stronger more about Manny.

Impossible to tell, but wouldn't be shocked by anyone. There is no "steroid body"..There are no real true indicators of use based on looking at someone. People will make assumptions about others they have never met before in their lives, but "seen em on tv,and they were big"..

There are side effects of everything. You wouldn't say Cal Ripken obviously used stanozolol, because he had a receding hairline.

If your genetics give you a high amount of testosterone, and you are prone to acne that doesn't automatically make you a "steroid user"..

Some will disagree, but find a substance that doesn't have a side effect, and when you don't, look at how many people in sports fit the profile for those sides.

There is obviously a huge amount of substances used, but pinpointing it is damn near impossible.

 A 162 game schedule doesn't give one enough time to work out to end up looking like the fucking Incredible Hulk. So, if a motherfucker playing pro ball looks like the Incredible Hulk, he's fucking juicing.

Most of those "incredible hulk" figures have superior genetics to begin with. They tend to be older guys with a lackluster amount of natural testosterone going. On average a guy who's 35 will see a lot better results, then a young buck with natural production still in tact. I am simply saying there is no "definite"..Only speculation....Even with testing there is always going to be "random tip offs" for something to clear. A steroid without an ester can clear in days.

The reason I rule no one above speculation is simply because it's impossible to tell their response to a substance. Not everyone is going to grow like a weed on steroids like people tend to believe. If your genetics piss on you then there's only so much you can do about it. That wouldn't stop someone from "$$bettering themselves$$" though.

There are people all over the world on "trt" (testosterone replacement therepy),that wouldn't look the part of an athlete. Yet,there are people who could take that low of a medical dose and gain large amounts.

Frank Thomas probably shouldn't be on that list played tight end in college at Auburn...Then again he did play college football in the 80's in the SEC. But seriously I doubt it, he was nautuarlly massive and if you gonna add for those reason might as well speculate with Mo Vaugh, David Ortiz etc.

Frank Thomas was the first person to come to my mind when I realized there were 103 names that we don't know about. The guy is a fucking horse. If he wasn't on the juice, I'll root for the Yankees, Lakers, Patriots, Duke, and the SEC to all win their respective championships.
