with Scott McVey

Big time players make big time plays in big time games.

If you believe that statement, the BPRT has a player for you. To say Scott McVey exploded on the recruiting scene would be an understatement. In 15 games this year, he posted 93 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, and 17 sacks. The St. Ignatius Junior linebacker capped off a state championship season with a title game for the ages: 8 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception. However, for those who have been following the St. Ignatius program, this was just another day's work for Scott McVey. This season brought him from relative unknown to a major national prospect and the Buckeyes did not waste any time getting an official offer out to the playmaker. We caught up with Scott for another round of The Straight Six.

BPRT: When you think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind?

SM: I think of execution and big games with big time players.

BPRT: What position would you prefer to play in college and why?

SM: Any linebacker position I would be comfortable with preferably outside as of now. Also strong safety i would have to learn but i feel i would excel at.

BPRT: You have one more year in your high school career...what goals have you set personally and for your team?

SM: Same as last year, my personal goal was to be all state and win a state championship.

BPRT: When your career is over, how would you like people to remember Scott McVey?

SM: As a great player and a player with class.

BPRT: If you were analyzing yourself on film, what would you list as your strengths and what needs some work?

SM: Strengths: Pass rushing, explosion off the ball, and tackling. Need work on zone pass coverage and recognizing routes.

BPRT: What are some of your favorite things to do away from football?

SM: I like to relax, spend time with family and friends

Scott McVey Official BP Thread

We would like to thank Scott McVey for his time and look for more great things in his future. Also, a special thanks to RB07 for his assist in this interview.

It's impressive when a hS junior says zone coverage and pass route recognition are the two things he needs to work on most. Then again, that's what I expect from a Jesuit school:). Does anyone know if he is still growing, or is he just bulking up now?

Not sure about growing but he has bulked up considerably this year. I believe he was 205 his sophmore year and also a tidbit, he hardly played any varsity his sophmore year, so he has really just begun to hit his stride. Scary.
