True, but this guy is just perfect for the system that they have. He'd be a great fit for us too and for a lot of programs, but he would be allowed to do more at Oregon imo.
However, Oregon's offense has also showed a propensity for getting QBs injured. Knock on wood, but I can't remember the last truly serious injury to an OSU QB, granted I don't remember more than back to the Hoying years, but still that kind of offense is a good way to get a QB hurt. i know a lot of prospects don't think that, but I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, so I would.

Just some nitpicking, cause (1) I'd like to get the facts straight, and (2) I'm a jerk like that.

I believe it's the biggest metro area in a state with a population over 11 million.
Columbus (~750,000 people) is the largest city in Ohio population-wise simply because it is so large area-wise. Cleveland (~440,000 people) is almost twice as dense as Columbus (6,165 people/sq. mile vs. 3,383 people/sq. mile). Cincinnati (~330,000 people, 4,247 people/sq. mile) is also considerably denser. Toledo and Akron also have 200,000+ people and are more dense than Columbus.

In terms of metro areas, The Cleveland and Cincinnati metro areas (both ~2.1 million people), each have a good 400k-500k more people than Columbus' metro area.

That being said, Columbus has grown about 2.5% more than Cincinnati has in the past 7 years (8.7% to 6.1%) while Cleveland has declined about 2.5% in the same time span.

tOSU campus is one of the world's largest (if not the largest).
tOSU is the largest in the country, but I believe there are University's with well over 100k on one campus in India and other parts of the world.

This is all splitting hairs. Oregon and Ohio State would both be great places to attend. They just have very different things to offer. So if you want to argue which one is better for Boyd, you really need to know what he's looking for in a school.

I believe it's the biggest metro area in a state with a population over 11 million. You figure it out. There's also the Columbus Blue Jackets, The Crew (MLS, and while I wasn't going to include this, you cited "skiing", so I guess it's just as likely ), AAA baseball, and two of the top three or four amusement parks in the world are but a couple hours away.

Columbus is the third largest metro area in Ohio. It goes Cincinnati, Cleveland, then Columbus.

From the Oregon site...more on the official to Oregon, this time from Tajh himself...has nothing negative to say about Oregon or Eugene except maybe the weather and raves about the facilities. Talks about whether or not distance will be a factor and says Oregon and OSU are deadlocked with BC still in the mix.

Deadlocked fresh off a visit...not a new leader.

"I don't know. Contend for NCs and play on a national stage"

Shrug, we probably woulda been in the NC game last year had Dixon not got hurt as well as the 3 QBs backing him up. We also finished #2 in the nation in 2001. Shrug
*shrug* Wow, one second-place finish in the 74 years of the AP poll. Color me impressed. Ohio State has four AP titles (1942, 1954, 1968, and 2002) and seven second-place finishes (1944[sup]1[/sup], 1957[sup]2[/sup], 1961[sup]3[/sup], 1973, 1996, 1998, and 2006).

And since Oregon's amazing second-place finish in 2001, Ohio State has one national title (2002), two other appearances in the BCS championship game (2006, 2007), and two more top-five finishes (2003, 2005) ... not to mention a BCS bowl this year with a chance at yet another top-five finish. So, yeah, I guess that the two programs are pretty evenly matched when it comes to "contending for NC's and playing on the national stage." *shrug*

"Things that aren't an hour or two away?"

Such as? I havent got a real answer to the question. Ive never been to Columbus so I was curious.
Well, you've been to Portland, right? And Portland has a bit more going on than Eugene, correct?

According to the Census Bureau's 2007 estimates, Portland's metro population is 2,175,113 (no. 23 nationally), while Columbus's is 1,754,337 (no. 32 nationally). Eugene's population is 343,591 (no. 144 nationally), which places it just behind Ann Arbor (350,003, or no. 141 nationally). So, cosmopolitan city versus college town. No comparison, really, in terms of "things to do" ... but some people prefer college towns.

No need to rush -- dailypress.com

After many twists and turns, Tajh Boyd is weighing his options.
Dave Fairbank
December 23, 2008

He could be a Duck, an Eagle or a Buckeye. Ohio State, Boston College, Oregon. No particular order. No favorite at the moment.

Before Phoebus High quarterback and top-shelf recruit Tajh Boyd decides on his next address, he swears that he will lock his impulses in the trunk and take several hundred deep breaths.

"I'm going to take my time and evaluate all my options," Boyd said Monday, only hours after returning from his latest trip, to Eugene, Ore., and Duck Land.

If you followed the Phantoms' marvelous state championship season and local football recruiting, you're probably aware that Boyd's elongated path has taken a pair of 90-degree detours, one of his own doing, the other not.

Boyd info from his visit.

Some of the people that mentioned the weather. The weather in Eugene all weekend was low 40s no snow but rain. Portland is 2 hours north of Eugene and had around a foot of snow which isnt typical. We get snow here every couple years. There is also an airport here that services to several of the major carriers so im not positive he would need to fly in our out of Portland.

Anyhow, the direct quote he gave his mom from the visit. "Mom, it will blow you away."

Directly in town there isnt alot to do. 60 Minutes West and you are at the coast, 60 min east and you are into the mountains and skiing. 2 Hours north is Portland and there is alot more to do there. Lakes within 15 minutes of Campus as well during the summer. The Willamette river goes right through town which is good for floating or fishing or whatever you want to do there.

I guess it depends on what folks mean by "Nothing to do there"

What is there to do in Columbus that is so much better?

Good luck to you guys, he will be a good pickup for whoever lands him. I believe its down to Oregon and Ohio St. I really dont think BC is in the mix.
do you think hell be skiing, ocean going etc when in college? keep in mind oregon pac ocean isnt the nice warm sandy beach of socal, fl, etc...

I didnt realize Columbus was so big. UO only has an enrollment of about 20k. OSU definately has a much more storied tradition, no doubt about it. Hope to visit there someday. Maybe a home and home in the future. Good luck the rest of the way in the recruiting battles.

Bob, is that you? Glad to see your in Oregon and no longer Chicago. :wink2:

No, Im just kidding. Wish you guys the best.

OSU can pretty much guarantee a couple conference championship rings...Oregon not so much. IMO if Boyd comes to OSU next year and stays 5 years there is a good chance he will win multiple conference titles and a NC. There are only 5-6 teams that can promise this opportunity and Oregon is not one of them.
