TE Rory Nicol (Official Thread)

So with Rory missing a week or two, who gets the nod in a two TE formation? Aren't Smith and JD Larson the only other TEs beside the freshman, DiLillo? This could be a problem at Wisky no?

Just curious what the experts think we'll do next week. Thanks guys.

I doubt they use many 2 tight end sets....edited for a dumb post...didn't notice 2 tightend part of question.

I thought about that...maybe we won't use the two TE set at Wisky. But I think we'll need to establish the run on the road at night with a freshman QB...will sure be beneficial to have 2 TEs in the game.

Wonder if Andy Miller is a candidate to move back out to TE. The staff has done it before with RJ Coleman and Andree Tyree. Miller obviously wouldn't be any type of receiving threat, but could suffice for a couple weeks. Just don't know if Bollman can let him go with Rehring out (and I'm not sure if Blankenship has seen action).

I just went back and rewatched the game. After Rory got injured, they immediately moved Brandon Smith back to TE. Looks like the fullback then became either Lukens or Terry rotating in.

Terry played pretty well on defense yesterday so I don't know if they will want to move him back to FB or not. In a tight formation, they can always slide one of the backup OT's to Te.

Nicol Takes OL To Task................Rory communicates his frustration with the offense and specifically the offensive line. Rory took it upon himself to hold a closed meeting with the offensive line and tight ends.

Nicol challenges offense to look itself in the mirror....................more of the same.

Parting thought: "Being on a team like this, you start to understand how big Ohio State is, how fortunate we are to be here, and how much success units can have. Whether it be a football team, a company or whatever -- when everybody comes together and buys into your mission statement, or buys into what your game plan is, and when guys come together -- the power of 11 is like a billion times stronger than the power of one. I think that's become evident to me throughout my career here. When our team is really close-knit, we're good."
